Today we’d like to introduce you to Nickole Williams.
Nickole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I became acquainted with real estate in 2008. I worked for an apartment locating firm. I got my realtor license and just took it from there. After many house sells, I started getting into Real Estate Investing. I wanted more. I knew that Real estate had more to offer for me. I would always dream of owning my own apartment complex, business buildings, and strip centers.
I met my husband, Derrick, in 2016. He was a builder. He had the same passion and dreams that I had. He was very knowledgeable about real estate investing. We put our resources together and launched our business, Global R.E.I. LLC in 2017. We would network to get our name out in the real estate community. We did wholesaling, driving for dollars, putting signs out on the side of the road (we buy houses). You name it we did it. We did whatever we could without having to spend money that we did not have.
I created a networking event called N.E.X.T (new and experienced Xtreme team). N.E.X.T. is also a platform to mentor. I work with a lot of silent investors who use their 401k retirement to invest in some of my projects. If interested in growing your retirement without this is a great safe non-taxable way. They can reach out to learn more. The purpose of the group was to learn from others like me. Who were struggling to understand the ends and outs of real estate investing. Share information, learn from others who were already investing. Our goal was to meet a different realm of resources; rather, it be financial resources, legal, etc. which helped us get to where we are today. During our short time of Real Estate Investing, we have completed five fix and flips. We own an Airbnb property in Galveston, TX. We are currently working on 12 brand new three-story townhomes in the medical center. Four single-family home in River plantation and a six-plex in (fifth ward) Kashmere Gardens TX. Our goal is to create as much generational wealth and passive income for our daughters.
I personally have enjoyed working for myself and with my husband while watching every single home transform that we have built or rehabbed. It brings me great joy that I play or have played a huge part in someone’s dream home. The look on our daughters faces when they see our finished product it make my heart so full. It inspires them and so many others. I (we) do not take any of this for granted.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been a smooth road. I have dreamt of this a big part of my life. It has taken me many years to get to this point.
Please tell us about Global R.E.I.
Being and African American Female in this line of work set me aside from others. I watch a lot of HGTV and I do not see African American Females doing what I do. I hope to inspire others to invest and become developers. We as women, have what it takes. I am a living witness.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I am in the process of putting together a webinar. I have had so many people reach out to me wanting to learn. Webinar, Podcast, and networking have worked well for me.
