Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Arrington.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since the age of 7 years, my vision was to do hair. I was blessed to receive my passion at such a young age. Graduated from Paul Mitchell, The School, received my business degree from Texas Southen University and also graduated from the Entrepreneur SURE program at UH Bauer school of business. Opened The Look Salon Houston in the West University area in 2015. Created my hair care product line Lavish in 2016. Not only does our team of professional diverse skilled artist work behind the chair, but we also do many fashion shows, runway shows, magazine shoots, photo shoots, etc. You have to have a passion for this industry to be great at it. Some find their passion at a young age, some, later in life. But, if you wake up every morning wanting to do that special thing that makes you feel free, that’s what you are meant to do! Being an entrepreneur makes me feel free! I am an entrepreneur.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road, no, lol! It’s a learning process. There will be costly mistakes or “lessons learned”. One of my struggles starting out was creating a system for my team while making sure they are happy.
The advice I would give to other young women starting out would be, to be patient and trust the process. Partner with non-profit organizations and do your part for the community.

We are known for our cuts and color techniques, professionalism and partnerships with many non-profit organizations. Known for my Balayage techniques. As a brand, I am most proud of the diversity of skills we are known for. No matter what walks into our salon my team can get it done and that is what also sets us apart.
Who have you been inspired by?
I have been inspired but my mom (Wilma). When I was younger I remember my mom work ethic was something strong. Lol that’s where I get it from. My sister Tammy the genius Therapist of the family inspires me. Always there to cheer me on no matter what craziness I want to do and I get free therapy sessions! Lol. My mentor Theodesia who has a passion for showing inner city kids, anything you want in this world is possible. I was one of those kids at 9yrs old and til this day she is still my close friend and mentor.
