Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Romero.
Hi Angel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We started our baseball program in 2011 with a vision to give young athletes more from baseball than just tournament rings. With limited resources, we began in a small warehouse in Spring, Texas, using indoor batting cages for training and renting fields whenever they were available. As our program grew, so did the need for more space and consistent access to fields, leading us to explore opportunities throughout the local baseball community. Eleven years ago, we found a home at the Knights of Columbus property, where our program has continued to grow and evolve. Today, 15 years later, we are proud of how far we have come and incredibly grateful for the support of our landlord, families, athletes, customers, and community. What started with a small space and a big vision has grown into the WBA program we are proud to continue building today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Most of the time, yes! We have been extremely blessed to say the least. That’s not to say it has been always easy. We have faced some hurdles along the way and the weather has been brutal to our facility many seasons. We have experienced snow, winds and even flooding but we are blessed to have built an amazing network and connections that always show up for us and give a helping hand when we need it the most.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Angel Romero has an extended career and passion for baseball since age 4. He played for Puerto Rico in several age categories, traveled to represent the country in a National Little League event at age 13, winning the championship for the country. Later in his career obtained a scholarship to play collegiate baseball with Imperial Valley College in California. After personal life events unfolded he decided to move back to PR where he played AAA with Manati and Vega Alta before moving to TX in 1998.
His passion did not stop there, after several attempts and exploring different entrepreneurships he finally saw the opportunity to open up a baseball training program focused on giving more than playing time to young athletes.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
You can do anything you set your mind but you have to have discipline, dedication, desire and determination. Make a plan and execute it. To make things happen, you most work towards your goals and, don’t rest until you see it come through.
