Today we’d like to introduce you to Don (THE BIGGEST) Gentry II.
Hi Don, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was fortunate enough to be raised in a two parent household my mother, father, and my older sister gave me the support and confidence which made me the man I am today. I attended #Sterling high school where I played football after high school I immediately joined the workforce because I wanted to be independent as soon as possible. While navigating the temptations and negative influences surrounding me I focus more on the positive side of growing up in Houston while still being connected to friends and family. I’m a younger age. I developed the drinking habit which is an out of the ordinary for the average teenager, but it eventually caught up with me and I ended up in the hospital being diagnosed with pancreatitis , so I had to give up alcohol at the age of 27 years old. This left me lost and feeling like I did not know who I was. I was forced to sit with my emotions and really think about the man I wanted to be from that point on this lead me to becoming a content creator host as well as a podcast I created a podcast called. #SpeakOnItPodcast (@wecanspeakonit) on instagram. My podcast is filmed at community cultivation network. Filming podcast, hosting events and creating gave me an outlet to express myself. Get to know people give people an opportunity to be on camera and I have been enjoying this journey. When I’m not in the studio, I am working full-time for the city of Houston as an inspector and in between work and the studio I’m at the gym the health scareat 27 forced me to take my health and fitness way more seriously I’ve currently lost about 105 pounds. I feel like my journey is just beginning. I want to spread awareness for health substance abuse, and always being yourself and following your dreams.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road and life is not always smooth just as any other person growing up you will have different obstacles to overcome when I was 16 years old I lost a close friend of mine named Christian CBoogie Johnson to Cancer this made me realize that life can be very short and uncertain so each day should be taken as a blessing and we should all be more respectful and thankful for life. I also lost my grandparents to whom I was very close with so I always try to do things that I feel would make them smile or make them proud of me but a big test in life has been me giving up alcohol on my own no classes no Coach just me and my Will to be a healthier more positive person. 3 Years and 10months SOBER
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently an inspector for the city of Houston. I’ve been working for the city for about 10 years now I have been here since I was 19 years old. I am now 31. This has been a very interesting journey. I have grown to be a man, I’ve learned to manage finances, and this job has taught me too. Be considerate of other people when you come in contact with whether it’d be customers or coworkers. I am proud of being employed for the city. It gives you a small glimpse of what it takes to keep Houston running, and it is fulfilling to feel like your efforts are helping out the community. I am also glad to call myself a creator as well. I love when I have the opportunity to be on the microphone, whether I’d be hosting an event or filming a podcast. It as always a great feeling when I am recognized online or in person by my stage name ( THE BIGGEST ).
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe in life taking calculated risk is very important I don’t believe you should do anything that could put yourself your family or lifestyle and jeopardy but I do believe you sometimes have to think and work outside of the box if you have a major goal you want to accomplish. A risk I believe I took is putting myself out there sharing my personal business with the world by the way of social media being vulnerable about my drinking habits, my beliefs, and my lifestyle. This was a challenge to me because you never know how the world may take it or who made judge you on the person you used to be.
