Today we’d like to introduce you to Irela Y Alex.
Hi Irela y, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
ALIR Wellness was founded by us, Irela Sierra and Alejandro Hernández, two Hispanic immigrants, registered nurses, and partners in life who know what it means to start over and build something from the ground up.
Our story began long before ALIR. Alejandro was a physician in our homeland, and immigrating to the U.S. meant leaving behind a career he had spent years building and having the courage to start again from zero. I came to this country young, carrying dreams of my own and learning early that sometimes you have to create the opportunities you were never given.
Years later, our paths brought us both to nursing, and eventually, to a dream that became ours together. We started ALIR with our own savings, no investors, no established connections or network, while still working our long hospital shifts. There was no roadmap, we simply believed in our vision and, most importantly, in each other.
That is why every patient who trusts us, every partnership we build, and every milestone we reach carries so much meaning. We know what it feels like to have very little except a dream and the willingness to work for it.
ALIR is more than a business to us. It carries our roots, our sacrifices, our story as Hispanics in healthcare, and the life we have worked so hard to build together. And in many ways, we feel like our story is only beginning.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. One of the hardest lessons has been accepting that passion doesn’t guarantee that everything will go according to plan. We’ve experienced closed doors, ideas we were excited about that didn’t work out, unexpected expenses, and moments where we questioned whether we were making the right decisions.
Building a business with your life partner also teaches you a lot about each other. We’ve had to learn when to be business partners and when to simply be Irela and Alex. There are disagreements, stressful days, and moments when one of us has to carry the other—and I think that has made both our relationship and our business stronger.
The biggest lesson has been learning not to see a “no” as the end of the road. Sometimes a closed door has simply pushed us toward a better one. ALIR today looks different from what we originally imagined, and we’re actually grateful for that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At ALIR Wellness, we believe in going beyond the basics of wellness care. We are a mobile wellness company focused on bringing personalized, clinically guided care directly to our community, in the comfort and convenience of their own space.
Our work includes IV vitamin therapy, wellness injections, mobile laboratory testing, recovery and performance support, and complementary wellness modalities such as red light and compression therapy. Every service we offer has a purpose, and every patient is approached individually. We take the time to listen, understand their goals, educate them, and create an experience that feels intentional from beginning to end.
What sets ALIR apart is the standard of care we’ve built around every experience. We combine our backgrounds as registered nurses with personalization, convenience, education, and attention to detail, while remaining RN-led and physician-guided. Whether we’re caring for one patient in their home, supporting someone through recovery, or connecting with hundreds of people at a community event, we bring that same standard of care everywhere ALIR goes.
What we’re most proud of is that ALIR is becoming known for more than what we offer—it’s becoming known for ”how we care” . Our vision is to continue redefining what mobile wellness can look like and build a brand where clinical care, innovation, prevention, and genuine human connection come together.
How do you think about luck?
We believe luck has played a role, but maybe not always in the traditional sense. We’ve been fortunate to cross paths with people who believed in ALIR, opened doors for us, recommended our name, or gave us an opportunity when we were still very new. Some of our most meaningful relationships and opportunities have come unexpectedly, and we never take those moments for granted.
At the same time, we’ve learned that good luck often meets you when you’re already doing the work. An opportunity can come your way, but you still have to be prepared to show up, give your best, and turn that opportunity into something meaningful.
Even the “bad luck” has had a purpose. There have been things we wanted badly that didn’t happen, and looking back, some of those disappointments redirected us exactly where we needed to go.
So we consider ourselves very blessed—but we also believe in working hard enough to be ready when the blessing arrives.
