Life & Work with Jaden Hancock of Friendswood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaden Hancock.

Hi Jaden, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well I remember one day I was walking home from school and at the time I was living in Wyoming.
When I got home I went to my room set on my bed and I saw that Limp Bizkit had just released a new album called Still Sucks.
When I heard the first song I was hooked by the riff, And after that point I knew what I wanted to do and that was to play guitar.
In the summer of 2022 is when I started playing guitar, there was a moment where I did put it down but then I came back to it and haven’t put it down since.
Also that same year is when I started trying to get into music production.
At first I was using looped beats but then in 2023 is when I started finally putting my own stuff over my music.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say my biggest struggle is sometimes trying to find influences and trying not to be a perfectionist.
I’ve come to the point where whatever comes out is what is going to stay on the track (depending on the idea of course).
Also I procrastinate way too much, that’s one of my biggest struggles.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well I am a musician, guitarist, and music producer, Also a photographer too.
The main style of music that I mostly do is nu metal, But I also have my electronic stuff too and I put all of this under my name, so no side projects.
Another thing that I love to do is guitar covers that I post on YouTube and other socials.
The thing that I try to do to stand out from other guitarists is moving around, meaning headbanging and jumping a bunch. (Shout out to former guitarist Mike Smith from Limp Bizkit, he’s my biggest influence for that)
I’m always working to improve myself as a musician in person and just trying to be happy overall and make others feel happy too.
Because positive energy rules over everything else.

How do you think about luck?
Well I would say I’m lucky.
Here’s how luck has come into my life and how it has brought me here.

Last year I had a school project for my senior year of high school where we had to choose a career that we wanted to do and then find someone to mentor in that career.
So me and my dad went to Guitar center because I wanted to do music production.
When we walked in we went to the counter and started talking with some of the staff, they looked a little confused.
And then a staff member from the side came over, he had over heard our conversation and he was interested in helping.
And that staff member was John Daues.

Because of John I have heavily improved my skills as a musician and producer, we still have music lessons together to this day.
So thank you John for being a huge inspiration and one of my best friends.
