Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Bergevin.
Hi Karina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
OWL Fitness Studio was opened in January of 2023 in Watertown, MA and expanded into Belmont, MA in April of 2025!
At OWL Fitness Studio, we offer Classical Pilates, Yoga, Personal Training and Nutrition programs tailored to meet the needs and goals of each individual. Whether you are looking to make a lifestyle change or simply want to stay fit, our team is here to help you reach your goals.
I believe in being a devoted and empathetic instructor who believes in the power of connection to help my Clients reach their fitness goals. I began my teaching journey in 1993 and have taught a vast majority of movement from old school Aerobics, Step, Spin (cycling) and Strength classes, to Classical Pilates and Yoga. I am a Licensed Classical Pilates Teacher as well as a Host Advisor for The Pilates Center, a 200-hour RYT, and also hold certifications in prenatal yoga, Mindfulness Meditation, Personal Timraining, and Reiki. Karina tailors each session to her client’s unique needs, drawing from a rich toolbox of modalities. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy running, taking Pilates classes from my mentors, attending music shows, and spending time with her husband, three kids, and beloved pets.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In regards to Pilates, often times people do not know what “Classical” Pilates represents…
I’m deeply committed to the classical method of Pilates and to preserving the integrity of the work as it was originally developed by Joseph Pilates. There are so many contemporary approaches today that borrow Pilates terminology or movement vocabulary, but for me, Pilates is much more than a collection of exercises. It’s a specific, comprehensive method with a particular philosophy, repertoire, sequencing, and way of working with the mind, body, and soul.
I respect that movement practices evolve, but I’m very passionate about teaching the classical method because I believe there is tremendous value in its original structure and intention. I want my students to experience Pilates as a complete system rather than simply as a series of Pilates-inspired movements.
Because of this, not everyone is our client and I am OK with that! I am a strong believer that it’s important to find the movement that suits each individual!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
After more than 30 years in the fitness and movement industry, I’ve learned that there is no substitute for really seeing the person in front of you. I’ve experienced and studied many different movement approaches, and I think that allows me to draw from them thoughtfully rather than rigidly.
What I’m best at is connecting the method to the individual. I pay attention to how someone moves, where they have strength, where they have limitations, how they learn, and what their body is asking for. I don’t believe in teaching simply because something is on a prescribed choreography sheet. I believe in having a strong understanding of the work and then knowing how to apply it intelligently to the individual.
I think I’m known for being observant, adaptable, and very committed to the quality of the movement—not just whether someone can complete an exercise. I am also a people lover and very friendly! I take pride in the amazing community that I have built at my studio and have been told that clients feel a sense of warmth when they walk through my doors.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is watching my clients progress and gain confidence. I always celebrate even the little “wins” with them!
