Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Cazares.
Hi Victoria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a young child ever since I could pick up a drawing utensil I was always expressing myself through art. When I was in kindergarten is when my teacher brought up to my parents about getting me into art classes. I won first place in rodeo art several times during in my school years and got to study art in France for a summer. I have always been connected with art in some way from dedicating my time to art museums and from continuing my art studies at Glassell Art School where I am currently enrolled in. My childlike wonder in creating and experimenting with art is why I continue to create, it is apart of me it is the reason, I believe I was put on this earth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, when I was young I always knew I wanted to be an artist, adults would ask me “What do you want to be when you grow up” I would always say “an artist”. There was no question about it until I got older and started listening to others and having second doubts. They would say “how are you going to make money” “that’s more of a hobby not a real profession”. Looking back on things I shouldn’t have let others influence me on what was always set in my heart to do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a multidisciplinary intuitive artist, I am known for printmaking but, I also work with fiber, painting, and collage. My works of art are rooted in exploring emotion, breath, and lived experiences of reconnecting with my Mexican indigenous heritage. Each abstract piece is created through focusing on meditation and letting my hands be the guide on what I am creating. I am most proud of selling all my art prints at the annual Glassell art sale back in December. I had buyers who later messaged me about my pieces it was such a surreal moment for me.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes, support local artists and by support it can mean sharing their art through social media or attending their art showings. I believe art starts with community and supportive friends and family. Love ya’ll and be kind to one another :).
