Lindsey Malone of Houston, TX on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lindsey Malone. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I did a wedding a couple of weeks ago and as a makeup artist most people who are attending the wedding see your work but never really know who you are. I had the pleasure of being invited to the ceremony and the reception. Some of the patrons I was speaking with and having great conversation asked me how I knew the bride or groom. I said “I’m part of glam squad, I did the makeup for the entire bridal party”. The man looked at me and said “GIRL, you slayed!” But more than that he said “you are sincerely a beautiful person, inside and out, I can feel how good your heart is”. In that moment with my hair in a bun, no makeup on, in tights and a black shirt, after doing 8 faces, I felt so empowered and so much joy that this person saw past my busted exterior and saw me for who I truly am. He saw and felt my love for people and my passion for makeup. It was really a moment where it made me see myself in a different light as well.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi readers! My name is Lindsey Malone. I have been a travel MUA for almost 8 years now. Most people know me for my wedding background but I also do special effects makeup and any other special events as well. My passion for makeup came from being a domestic violence survivor. For so long I was made to believe that I wasn’t beautiful, that no one would ever want me. When I left my ex-husband, I started to do makeup on the Fridays my kids would go with their dad. What was meant to be something to do as a hobby quickly started being recognized by my peers. People wanted me to do their makeup as well. I found a love and passion for helping people enhance their beauty and making them feel confident. Doing makeup for people helped me heal and find the beauty within myself and also gives me such an outlet to share the gospel with people and how God blessed me and allows me to share my gift with people not only with doing their makeup, but also with teaching people how to do their own makeup as well.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I don’t think I truly saw the world clearly until I accept Jesus into my life. When I let go and let God lead me, I truly found peace. When I left my marriage I truly didn’t know who I was anymore. I was a mother, I knew that. I was a sister, friend, cousin. All of these things I still couldn’t figure out who I was or what would make me happy for that matter. I found my church 8 years ago after being invited by an old friend. Let me tell you, there is no easy path to life. God gives us lessons, tests, trials and tribulations, and by FAITH, determination, love, and true submission and repentance you can really find happiness in the darkest times of your life. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for my love for Jesus.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been many times I felt like giving up. Like I wasn’t good enough for the world. The world would be a better place without me in it. I have nothing to offer. These are the lies we believe when we tell ourselves there is nothing more we can offer or give. Positive thinking and perspective can change the way we speak to ourselves. Remember who made you. Remember your worth. Remember you are a child of the most High. He doesn’t make mistakes, so how can you ever give up on a life that was given to you from sacrifice? You have to find a way to show yourself grace, love, and gentle hands. Everyday find a reason to keep pushing, find a way to tell yourself that you are loved and you are worth it!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
This question is so loaded. The beauty industry can be so unfair at times. Everyone thinks you have to have filter perfect skin. That you have to have youth to be beautiful. That fillers and Botox and plastic surgery is the only way to be looked at as a beauty standard. It’s all a lie. Your confidence and the way you perceive yourself is the most beautiful thing you can wear.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I think about this a lot, that may be weird, but I think this question allows me to move intentionally with people. If it is one thing I want people to remember me for, it’s my heart. My love and passion to love unbiased and freely. No matter who you are, no matter where you came from, we are all worthy to be loved. I hope people can tell stories of how I make them laugh, how I was always willing to make someone smile or lighten a load.
