Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex White.
Alex, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am so honored to be typing this out today. I am a lifestyle/documentary photographer based out of Houston, TX. I capture everything from births to weddings and absolutely love what I do for a living. I have an amazing husband who is my rock and happy place when I need one, and three adorably wild little girls we just adore. I started my professional journey into photography in 2013 and I can’t even remember how I managed to live without it before.
My passion for photography started at a young age. I remember being just a kid with an old school camera taking photos on film. In high school, I attended classes where I dove into film more and eventually studied the digital aspect of photography. I left the corporate/business world when our first daughter was born and haven’t looked back. I started photographing families when she was about 8 month old and slowly diversified into what Alex White Photography is now.
My amazing husband is now one of my primary second shooters at weddings and working together has completely fulfilled our lives. He is there when I have to run out for a birth in the middle of the night, he is up with me while I edit and oh my gosh, he is my favorite “date” to take to weddings. It is such a pleasure to be in the midst of the beautiful moments that take place in front of my camera. My goal is to capture the moment as its happening. To tell a story, to capture emotion, to get the details and to have my clients relive that moment for years to come.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All in all, it has been a great experience. One of the major obstacles I have faced has been balancing work and home life. I am a workaholic at heart, and absolutely love what I do, so saying “no” to work time and saying “yes” to play time with our girls has been a big lesson I have learned. Balancing two things that you love so much can be difficult but being able to work from home and being creative for my clients has been so rewarding.
Alex White Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
When I started Alex White Photography, I had no idea what I wanted to specialize in. I just knew I had to take photographs with my camera. I started capturing families and eventually that lead to lifestyle sessions and weddings. A few years ago, I learned about birth photography and it completely blew me away. I loved the idea of capturing those raw, new and special moments shared by a family, and that’s when my passion for birth photography began.
I currently book everything from family lifestyles sessions, births to weddings. My goal is to be there at the most important events in our client’s lives. I want to capture them in a way that speaks to them later, to document every detail of the day and every smile that was shared at their session. My sessions are less about the poses and more about the interaction, my hope is that with an image my clients are able to go back in time and remember the moment vividly.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It sounds cliché, but hearing how much my clients love the images of themselves with their kiddos. As moms and dads we don’t always get to be in the photographs; being the one who is able to do that for my clients makes me really happy. A very close second would be being featured in the Breathe: The Home Birth Documentary
Produced by the stunning Maria Sotolongo. One of our birth photographs was the cover for the documentary, and it by far has been one of the highlights of my career.

Alex is a fantastic photographer, and has been documenting my family’s growth for almost two years. Great energy, attention to detail and – above all – a kindness that makes the whole thing such a pleasure. Absolutely love her!
