Meet Amber Johnson of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Johnson.

Hi Amber, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started with the portal of motherhood. The moment, I realized that I was carrying my son, I knew life would no longer be the same. The understanding that I would have to be totally responsible for this growing human in my body, I immediately changed my eating habits, thoughts and started practicing yoga as I needed a healthy and calm baby. The joy of taking care of myself in a way that I was not taught, led me down a rabbit hole of unknown information that I soaked up like a sponge. Being aware of the dangers of unhealthy habits and how much of an impact it can have on the quality of your life, I made a commitment to myself to do the best that I could impacting every pillar of self-care and the care of my newly developing family. I started studying herbalism, making body and hair care products and cooking with intention to really nourish myself and my loved ones. I tell my son, all the time, I cared about myself, but the actuality of affecting 7 generations to come with how I raised him, directly made me such a better human being as well as the people that I would later come in contact with.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being the lone ranger in my extended family and not getting the support that I would have liked was hard. Being judged in the beginning, due to doing things so different form how I was raised and the offense that was felt because of the rejection of the old ways of existing was tough. I knew that vitality was in my future and the future of my kids. I knew that the issues that plagued my family due to ancestral addictions, lack of self-control and poor choices was something that I could easily eliminate, as I was not going to choose to suffer due to not taking responsibility for my life and the consequences that would follow. A lot of people in my family suffer from undiagnosed and untreated mental health issues, diabetes type 1 and 2, heart disease, high cholesterol, cysts of all kinds, kidney dysfunction, and liver failure. When understanding that 90% of those issues are not a part of your genetic make-up, rather what you choose to eat every day, choosing health makes it easier for me when I can actually see the fruits of their labor as well as the fruits of mine. Although I do understand the systematic issues that infect the Indigenous American, and the spiritual root of most of these physical ailments, I am aware that the work that is required to have a different result is completely up to me. Excuses are easy to come by, but when you really want to do something, there is nothing that can stop you. Dealing with racism and the debilitating effects it has had on my bloodline, I let that be my motivation to live my highest self and know that my ancestors would want nothing but the best for me and the continued generations to come.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create plant-based wellness products and teach classes and workshops for those who are interested in having control and knowledge on the best ingredients to use for almost every ailment or skin concern. I pride myself on creating a non-toxic version of every possible personal care item and have been traveling through Central and South America since 2024 sourcing ingredients and learning alternative healing modalities. The power of the Amazon and Mother Nature is REAL! I have been blown away at the access and richness that is available yet surprised by the lack of knowledge and continued usage of highly toxic products to take care of your largest organ, your skin and that includes your hair. It’s all connected. My mission is to educate as many people as I can on the deliciousness that can be easily afforded and utilized with ingredients that you may currently have in your kitchen cabinets or can be purchased at the local market. What sets my apart from others is that I am a holistic esthetician and herbalist who has been creating healing nourishment for the skin for over 25 years, it’s who I am and it’s what I know and understand at a cellular level.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is total wellness and vitality on all the pillars of self-care. Spiritual, mental, physical, social, nutritional, recreational, financial and intellectual. If you are operating from a place where you are consistently nourishing yourself on all those levels then you are WINNING! Considering the connectivity of all things related to yourself, I implore anyone I meet and those willing to listen to work on being a self-care connoisseur. There are little things you can do every day that can add up over time that really put you on another level, as your main job in life should be taking care of yourself. Find out what you need to do to hit on all those pillars, make a list, get creative and get to it! If dancing brings you joy, move your body. If hydration is something you struggle with, drink that first cup of water as soon as you wake up. Investing in yourself creates rituals that honor who you are and it effects every aspect of your life. I always say that if people took better care of themselves, they would be kinder to others. When you are full and nourished, there’s no way you have time to negatively affect someone else’s vibration.
