Anari, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been what most people would consider a “girly-girl” for as long as I can remember. Anything pertaining to makeup, fashion, and hair have always intrigued me. However, makeup stood out amongst the rest, and this is what I gave most of my attention to while growing up. Throughout the years, I began to accumulate a large following under my previous social media alias better known as “thelipstickgawd.” Though I love the entire process of makeup application, I found myself becoming obsessed with lip gloss and lipstick. This has always been my favorite step, and I have probably worn every single color known to man. Therefore, this strong love and passion for lip products influenced me to start a line of my own. Over the years, I have spent thousands of dollars on an array of lipstick and lip gloss. With this being said, I decided that I wanted to take it upon myself to start my own lip gloss/cosmetics company. This is how my brand; Pink Ri Co. came into fruition. Pink Ri Co. is a black female owned business who offers handmade lip gloss and wholesale products. Not to mention, all of our products are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No. It definitely has not been a smooth road simply because of my fear of failure and indecisiveness. I have wanted to own my own cosmetic business for quite some time, but I would always push this idea to the back of my mind. I would constantly watch many young women start cosmetic companies, and think to myself “this field is way too saturated… there’s no way anyone would support my vision.” However, with time and maturity, I have learned and I am continuing to learn that this is false.

Pink Ri Co. is a black female owned business that is based in Southeast Houston, Texas. We specialize in providing handmade lip gloss. Not only are our products handmade, they are also 100% vegan and cruelty free. We are known for our pink packaging and various shades of pink and nude glosses. Also, many of our customers are often pulled in by the creative names of our lip products such as “Sandie Cheeks” and “Hot Pink Sundae.” As a company, we are proud of the originality and affordability that many of our customers have praised us for. We believe that this is what sets us apart from the rest of the crowd.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a complete “beauty queen,” or what most people would consider a “girly-girl.” I was also a dancer, which meant that makeup was a big part of my life from the very beginning. Makeup was a requirement during performances and games, therefore, this allowed me to grow my love for makeup and the beauty industry overall. I would definitely consider myself to be an eccentric/eclectic woman who has a personality to match.
