Meet Angi Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angi Lewis.

Angi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
20+ years ago I studied photography and majored in communication design at Texas State University. After college, I returned to Houston and took a 16-year detour in the corporate world working as an HR Recruiter. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t my true passion. So in March of 2016, I did what a lot of entrepreneurs in their 40’s do, I handed in my notice and started my own business! It was a huge leap of faith, but it was hands-down the best decision I’ve ever made. And I haven’t looked back since.

I have always had a passion for photographing people. I’m a member of PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, where I serve as an Ambassador. I also serve as a committee member for In The Pink of Health (a fundraising organization for breast cancer awareness). Giving back to my community is incredibly important to me. Life is both precious and short another reason why I feel photographs are so important.

In the last few years, I have had my work published in numerous magazines, as well as received several awards in international photography competitions. I am very active in the Houston and U.S. photography communities and am a part of several national photography organizations. I constantly push myself both professionally and creatively to do my best. 2018 and 2019 were both huge years for me professionally. I did a lot of traveling for work, hosted a lighting workshop and met several of my mentors and photography idols including Sue Bryce, Felix Kunze, Pratik Naik, Mark Seliger, Peter Hurley, Jeff Rojas and Megan DiPerio. I’m looking forward to an even better 2020! I know there’s so much more ahead.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing worth having is ever without a struggle. And God knows I’ve had several of them, mostly in my personal life. Not too long after I begin my business full time, my husband was diagnosed with stage III cancer. I’m happy to say he’s now cancer free. But that experience, although hard on my business initially, actually helped to skyrocket it. It enabled me to truly connect with my clients on a deeper, more meaningful level. And it also removed the silly fears we all have as creatives and entrepreneurs. I was no longer afraid of no’s or being rejected. Instead, I was able to move out of my own way and really focus on the things that were most important to me. My family, growing my business and serving my clients.

Angi Lewis Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a contemporary portrait photographer. I specialize in individual, family and senior portraits. I also specialize in headshots and personal branding for businesses and entrepreneurs. I am known for my quality, my clean style and my ability to connect with my clients. I take great pride in serving my clients as a full-service photography studio, guiding them from the conceptual stage all the way through to personally delivering their beautiful print products. I believe my dedication, passion and commitment to excellence sets me apart. My work ethic is one of the things I am most proud of.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by what fulfills me as both a business owner and as an artist. As an artist, that success comes from creating portraits that truly connect my subject to my vision. The second part of that success is serving my clients. I love providing exceptional experience and making them feel comfortable in front of the camera.
