Meet Angie Willson of Pure in North Side

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Willson.

Angie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I previously worked as the Vice President of Sales for a Housewares company and my husband worked for one of the largest publicly traded Retail Energy Providers in North America. We both worked seven days a week which included a lot of travel and time away from our family. With 2 beautiful young boys, we decided to take a step back from the 7-day travel schedule grind and take a giant step forward and start our own company. We wanted to offer something unique and make a difference, thus we started Pure. Pure was set up to offer a better opportunity for all involved.

We are an energy brokerage, marketing, and sales company. We wanted to help change peoples lives, offer a real opportunity for our employees, sales reps, and partners. We want to show the average person that may not have real opportunity where they currently are working that with the proper training, guidance, and support, they can become independently successful, both mentally and financially.

Pure Inc allows us to represent multiple Retail Energy and Gas Providers across North America, which allows us to provide our customers with multiple programs and pricing plans to choose from. Programs can be fixed rates, market or index price, short term or long term programs. We have pretty much saved every commercial customer anywhere from 10% to 50% on their electricity and gas costs, and that’s money companies can utilize elsewhere immediately.

We are also very proud to offer 100% wind power to organizations that want to reduce emissions, their carbon footprint and help move Houston off the list of the most polluting Cities in North America.

Representing multiple Retail Energy providers gives our Commercial Sales Reps and Brokers the ability to attract more clients. We will price their current rate, compare them to the competition and advise them as to what programs align with their corporate goal and expectations.

We also wanted to attract top talent, by not only offering the highest rates of income, commissions, and benefits with work flexibility. It’s a whole new world, where family and personal time are valued most to the individuals we work with and at Pure we embrace that type of family time, personal time, work time independence and believe high achieving individuals do not need to be micromanaged. They need to be inspired and allowed the freedom to work at a much higher level.

Our Residential organization was set up to attract the average $7 – $20 / hr individual who is the type of person who is super committed, puts in extra work hours, tries to get ahead at his job and even takes extra classes or studies to move ahead, but realizes they never ever seem to get ahead. Someone who has big dreams of building a healthy bank account, buying a new car, a home for their family and being a part of something much bigger then what they currently are.

There are a lot of people out there working very hard putting in 60 – 80 hours a week and only earning about $600+ a week and dream of earning $1,000 plus. Our goal is to attract this type of individual with a great work ethic, teach them basic sales skills, work with them daily to develop to improve their skills, attitude, belief and learn how to set goals and get excited about saving and investing money. We know every last person uses Electricity and everyone likes to save money.

All we need to do is connect to them and we can protect their rates long term to avoid fluctuations and increases. Help shift them into our Residential Green Programs that will not only reduce their energy consumption but eliminate 100s of thousands of pounds of pollution caused by generating electricity by burning Coal or Natural Gas just for their home and at the same time help the average customer save anywhere from $1000 – $2,000 over 3 years.

We have many individuals that were working very hard at 2 jobs, earning $7 an hour, putting in over 60 hours a week, taking in as little as $400 a week, that now earn well over $1000 a week with us. One of our greatest success stories was a young man named Josh who worked at Home Deport making minimum wage and by his 2nd year working on the Residential team earned over $200,000 a year! That’s Pure life-changing, and that’s exactly why we started this business and our goals are to do that thousand of times over.

Has it been a smooth road?
There are always struggles. Some of the bigger challenges are when the companies we represent make dramatic changes to customer programs and our agreement when it suits only their best interest. This has a negative effect on our customers, sales teams, and organization. Examples are, they price their energy high above the market, eliminate any incentives and want to cut commissions in half.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pure Inc story. Tell us more about the business.
Pure is an energy brokerage, sales, and marketing company. We specialize in electricity and natural gas. Our largest divisions go direct to energy end users and offer competitive prices and programs to encourage them to switch providers. We are proud that this is mutually beneficial to both the consumer, to the retailer and us as well.

We are very proud of the fact that we are helping people. We help our customers get a better understanding of the industry, budgeting and environment issues that we as a community can change. We can help them massively reduce their energy costs.

Pure is very proud of the positive impact we have had on the individuals we hire. We have had several individuals grow personally, professionally and financially. Pure creates an environment of positivity, belief and goal setting. We believe that the goal is to help others achieve success. We know that success for us will come when we help all the individuals reach their goals. The more you put out, the more you get back!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We are in a vastly ever-expanding industry and new markets continue to deregulate. A competitive market is absolutely beneficial to encourage better services, products, and ultimately lower prices. In non deregulated markets customers are paying as high as 25 cents + per kWh. In deregulated markets, customers can pay as low as 4 cents per kWh.

America is one of the most polluting countries and Houston is one of the top polluting cities. There is going to be an environmental shift, where we need to eliminate pollution and shift towards wind, hydro and solar power.
