Meet Anthony R. Stewart, Jr. of ARSJ Media & Publishing House, LLC in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony R. Stewart, Jr.

Anthony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I initially got started in the entertainment industry while at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. I started as a cinematographer, and slowly began directing and producing film projects of my own. One of the most exciting aspects of filmmaking for me has always been corresponding musical works with film scenes. The feeling of placing the perfect song over the perfect scene is a riveting one and one i have chased since I entered into this profession. Over time, I began working closely with artists whose music videos I would shoot and direct, and started focusing more on the music administration process while securing my Juris Doctorate here in Houston. The lack of representation in rooms where decisions were being made ultimately influenced the birth of ARSJ Media & Publishing House.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The greatest struggle to overcome when working with creatives and entertainers is that most have quirks and anxieties that are unique to them. As a music manager and publisher, it can often be hard navigating between the worlds of business and creativity. The objectives of each don’t always coincide. However, finding that balance tends to be something I have come to enjoy. The entertainment industry is an industry of collaboration, with each individual apart of your team possessing a skill which may help take you and your camp to the next level. The key is to realize that balance early on and adjust for success.

ARSJ Media & Publishing House, LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
ARSJ Media & Publishing House, LLC is a full fledge Media and Management agency specializing in artist development, music licensing, and industry preeminence. We prioritize artist ownership and believe that far too often the culture we’ve created and shared with the world to enjoy isn’t owned and controlled by us. Being Black people. We see a major problem with that and we hope to shift that narrative. Ownership is important, and it’s important that we take ownership of the intellectual property we create, the lack thereof inevitably breeds exploitation.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As a child, my mother used to make breakfast every Saturday morning. She’d put on her old school music and my brother and I would wake up to Marvin Gaye, The Whispers, and the smell of bacon. We’d dance, we’d talk, we’d laugh. Those moments had a colossal influence on my love for music and its ability to bring people together.
