Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi White.
Brandi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Believe it or not, I started by business back when I was 16 years old. I was in a business class in High School, where I signed up for an entrepreneurship class. This class was sponsored by the Texas Business Alliance. Throughout the course of the class we were taught to write business plans, elevator pitches, and starting up a business. I am forever grateful to my business class teacher for forcing me to sign up for that program. I went from the girl who sold chocolate chip cookies at school to “the cake lady”.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth doesn’t come close to describing my journey thus far. I’ve learned so much in the time I’ve been in business. There were times when someone would place an order and not pick it up, causing me to lose money. There was also a time where I would have a mishap on a delivery route. I was also undercutting my prices. I had to learn my worth.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jamese Sweets – what should we know?
I am a cake artist. I do make other things such as cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, etc. small things you’d find on a treats table. I am known for making my cakes close to or exactly like a photo my client sends me. I’m most proud of not letting competition stop me from doing what I love, baking cakes. I think the most important thing that sets me apart is, my cakes are not only appealing to the eye, but they taste amazing.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that consistency is key. People today are very observant and any slip in presentation or taste, they’ll point it out.
