Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Kendle Hodges.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From Faith to Entrepreneurship: My Journey of Taking a Leap of Faith
My entrepreneurial journey began in an unexpected way after moving from St. Louis to Houston in 2019. I stepped out on faith, leaving behind everything familiar to start a new chapter in a city where I had no family or support system. Little did I know that this move would set the foundation for a journey filled with purpose, growth, and entrepreneurship.
Around 2020, my entrepreneurial spirit began to unfold. I founded Faith Over Fear TC Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to serving and supporting the homeless community. I later became a published author with my book, From Faith to Fear, where I shared my personal story of trusting God enough to leave my comfort zone and embrace the unknown. I also had the opportunity to help my son launch his first clothing line, which further fueled my passion for entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for others.
Like any entrepreneurial journey, mine came with challenges, unexpected roadblocks, and moments of uncertainty. In 2023, a conversation with a friend introduced me to the possibility of pursuing real estate. Initially, I questioned whether it was the right path for me. However, an opportunity presented itself that allowed me to take real estate classes at no cost. I took that as another sign to step out on faith. Six months later, in April 2024, I sat for my real estate licensing exam and passed on my first attempt.
During my first year as a real estate agent, I successfully sold three homes, marking an exciting milestone in my journey. Looking back, I realize that each experience—from nonprofit leadership to writing my book and supporting my son’s business—prepared me for where I am today.
My journey has taught me that entrepreneurship isn’t always about having everything figured out. Sometimes, it’s about being willing to start, trusting the process, and having the courage to pursue opportunities even when you’re uncertain. My faith continues to be the foundation of everything I do, reminding me that the very things that challenge us can also position us for our purpose.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My entrepreneurial journey has been far from easy. While I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, there have been moments of disappointment, financial loss, and uncertainty that have tested my faith and made me question whether entrepreneurship was really for me.
One of my biggest lessons came when I decided to venture into the Airbnb business. At the time, I had an 800 credit score and believed I was taking a step toward building financial freedom. I connected with someone to help me secure financing, took out a loan, and launched the business with high hopes. Unfortunately, after six months of operating without turning a profit, I found myself consistently in the red. I eventually walked away with no profits, additional debt, and a credit score that had taken a significant hit. It was a humbling experience that taught me the importance of due diligence, financial planning, and fully understanding the risks involved before pursuing an opportunity.
When I transitioned into real estate, I quickly learned that this industry came with its own set of challenges. I’ve spent countless hours driving from house to house, investing my time, energy, and gas money to help clients find the right property, only for them to change their minds or back out in the end. Those experiences can be discouraging when you’re working hard to build your business and often investing your own resources before seeing a return. There were moments when I genuinely wanted to give up and walk away from it all.
To make things even more challenging, I was planning my wedding while navigating difficult client relationships and trying to keep my business afloat. Balancing those responsibilities sometimes felt overwhelming, and I had to ask myself whether I had the strength to keep pushing forward.
A major source of encouragement came when I married my husband on July 3, 2026. He reminded me not to hang it up and encouraged me to keep going because he believed I could do it. What I appreciate most about him is that his support goes beyond words. He doesn’t simply tell me to persevere; he helps me think through different strategies, consider new approaches, and find ways to improve how I operate my business. Having someone who believes in me while also helping me find solutions has meant so much to me.
These experiences have taught me that entrepreneurship is about more than having a great idea or the courage to take a leap of faith. It requires resilience, wisdom, adaptability, and the willingness to learn from the decisions that don’t turn out as planned. I’ve learned that setbacks don’t mean you’re incapable of succeeding; sometimes, they are reminders to reassess, make adjustments, and approach things differently.
My faith continues to be the foundation that keeps me grounded. I’ve had to rebuild, learn difficult lessons, and push through moments when giving up seemed easier than continuing. But I refuse to let the hard chapters define my story. I’m still growing, still learning, and still pursuing the vision God placed in my heart. My journey is a reminder that success isn’t always a straight line, and sometimes the greatest accomplishment is finding the courage to keep going when the road gets difficult.
As you know, we’re big fans of Faith over Fear Transition Center & Dalton Wade Real Estate Agent. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My real estate business and my nonprofit organization, Faith Over Fear Transition Center, represent two sides of the same mission: helping people move forward into a better chapter of their lives.
Through real estate, I help individuals and families navigate the process of buying and selling homes. I understand that a home is more than a property; it represents stability, opportunity, and the beginning of a new chapter. My goal is to make the real estate experience as informative, supportive, and stress-free as possible by educating my clients, listening to their needs, and helping them make informed decisions. What sets me apart is my personal approach, my willingness to advocate for my clients, and my understanding that every person’s journey is different. I want my clients to know they have someone in their corner who genuinely cares about their goals, not someone who is simply trying to close a transaction.
My nonprofit, Faith Over Fear Transition Center, was founded out of my desire to serve individuals experiencing homelessness and those facing difficult life transitions. Our mission is rooted in compassion, faith, and the belief that a person’s current circumstances do not define their future. Through community outreach, resource support, and initiatives that bring hope to those in need, we strive to remind people that they are seen, valued, and deserving of an opportunity for a fresh start.
What makes both ventures special to me is that they are built around people, not just business. Real estate allows me to help individuals and families find a place to call home, while Faith Over Fear Transition Center allows me to serve people who may be struggling to find stability in their lives. Although the services are different, both are connected by my desire to help others move forward.
Brand-wise, I am most proud that I have continued to build with purpose, even when the journey has been challenging. I stepped out on faith when I moved from St. Louis to Houston, and that decision opened doors I could not have imagined. From founding a nonprofit to becoming an author and pursuing real estate, every experience has strengthened my commitment to serving others.
I want readers to know that Faith Over Fear is more than a name. It is a way of living. It represents the courage to take the next step even when you cannot see the entire path ahead. Whether I am helping a family find a home or working to support someone experiencing homelessness, my goal is to make a difference that extends beyond a transaction or a single moment. I want to build a lasting legacy rooted in faith, service, empowerment, and the belief that everyone deserves an opportunity to move toward a better future.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always wise beyond my years and a very smart, observant person. I had a natural desire for more out of life, even when I couldn’t fully articulate what that looked like. I knew there was something bigger for me, and I always had dreams of becoming more and experiencing more than what I saw around me.
However, my environment sometimes influenced how big I allowed myself to dream. Instead of fully embracing the possibilities ahead of me, I found myself shrinking my vision and limiting what I believed was possible for my life. I think that happens to a lot of people; when you’re surrounded by certain circumstances for long enough, you can begin to mistake what’s familiar for what’s possible.
Looking back, I realize that the ambition was always there. I just had to grow into the confidence to trust it. As I got older, I began to understand that my environment didn’t have to determine my future and that I was capable of creating a life beyond the limitations I once placed on myself. Moving from St. Louis to Houston in 2019 was one of the biggest examples of that realization. It forced me to step outside of everything familiar and discover what I was capable of on my own.
Today, I can appreciate the younger version of myself who always knew she wanted more, even when she didn’t yet believe she could have it. That little girl had the vision; she just needed the courage, faith, and life experiences to stop making herself smaller to fit the world around her. My journey has been about learning to give myself permission to dream bigger and trusting that my beginnings don’t have to define my ending.
