Today we’d like to introduce you to Brook Wilson.
Brook, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Houston, TX but I grew up in Pearland, TX. My parents always wanted me and my siblings to grow up and get the education that they were not able to receive. Living in Pearland was a struggle for us, but we managed as a family. I remember the good times and bad times. I remember growing up sometimes experiencing no lights, no hot water, and always having to move from house to house. My parents made sure that even though we struggled that we would stay close as a family. Although we experienced our struggles, we enjoyed one another. I wouldn’t take back anything I experienced growing up as a child because I feel it is what has molded me into the young woman I am today. Growing up as a child, I competed in sports. By the age of four, I fell in love with the track. My father has always had a significant influence on my life choices. He encouraged me to run hurdles and I was able to accomplish a lot of great things. Since then, the track has been a focal point in my life that has molded a positive mindset to keep persevering no matter what obstacles come in my way. I used the track as an outlet to let out the negatives things I went through. I was able to get a full scholarship to compete in the track on the collegiate level at the University of Texas at San Antonio. While attending UTSA, my parents got a divorce and my focus was no longer on track. I felt lost, and I didn’t know who I was anymore. I could never imagine walking away from a full track scholarship, but I knew it wasn’t the end of my journey, nor was it my calling. After leaving UTSA, I took a major detour and transferred to three other Universities: Lamar University and Baylor.
Due to a financial crisis, I couldn’t continue at Baylor, so I decided to come home and work. It was never in my plans to quit college. I had times where I felt defeated and I lost myself completely, but I had an epiphany one day, and I took my knowledge and my confidence to a new level. I have always strived to be the best I could be. Failure was never an option for me. Coming back home was the best thing I could have done. I enrolled into the University of Houston, but I soon realized it wasn’t the school for me, so I quit. And my father communicated daily. He had been encouraging me for some time to get into real estate. The few months I was down on my luck, I realized that working for someone else wasn’t going to cut it. So, I started manifesting how I could turn my life around. I then enrolled at Texas Southern University. After six long years and five different universities, I was able to walk across the stage Dec. 2019. While attending TSU, I went ahead and got my real estate license in 2018. Since then, God has been more than a blessing in my life with real estate. I have exceeded in ways I thought I would never. My struggles are what made me, and I am just getting started.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has never been a smooth road for me. I’ve always had to work harder than the average person. I was always underestimated because of my size. Living through the separation of my parents. Experiencing childhood struggles and losing myself throughout my journey were all struggles I had to experience. I had to learn to be an adult at the age of 17 because I realized quickly I couldn’t depend on anyone.
Please tell us about your work.
I am a real estate agent. Realm Real Estate Professional is where I hold my license. I assist people with leasing, buying and selling residential properties. I also assist people with finding apartments for lease. I specialize in residential real estate. What I am most proud of is being able to implement knowledge into the community about real estate and being able to not only sell them a house but to sell them their dream home. My hard work and dedication to making a difference within my community is what sets me apart from the rest. I don’t do real estate just for the money but because I am passionate and driven to make a change in the world.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would do anything differently. My journey is what made me who I am. Without it, I am nothing.
