Meet Quiana Griffin of Canvas Fit in West Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quiana Griffin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Quiana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a Performance Coach at the International Leadership of Texas, a Fitness Specialist, and a youth mentor. I have always been an active person and after I finished my collegiate track career at Northwestern State University I knew that THAT was not the end of my story! I knew for a fact working behind a desk was not for me. Growing up in Lake Charles, a small town in Louisiana, I participated in many sports and as I got older, I started mentoring the younger kids that grew up watching me. Honestly, my intentions were never to become a mentor or anything that involved me talking to people. For years I had a lot of adults speaking into my life about how I had an impact on people around me. I never took that serious but I guess the saying is true “you never know who’s watching you”.

Canvas Fit became a vision of mine in 2017 when I was going through a rebranding phase. I started to notice that a lot of women were becoming more tentative and insecure about their bodies to a point where it was becoming an epidemic. I know being body shy has always been an issue but with the BOOM in social media and “Instagram models” the issue is bigger than ever and I decided to step up and encourage women to love themselves inside and out. After being “Just be Fit Fitness” for three years, I decided to rebrand and change my fitness brand and mentoring program to Canvas Fit because “Your body is YOUR canvas, make it a MASTERPIECE!”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all but it made me who I am today so I’m grateful. I graduated college in 2014 and did not get a “job” in my career field until 2019. I went through a lot of mental battles and indecisiveness on what I wanted to do and if I wanted to give up or switch passions (ha). When I moved to Houston, I thought things would be easy but that was not true at all lol. I soon realized that there are thousands of personal trainers out here. I had to constantly try to figure out how to make myself stand out above the rest. I went from running consistent boot camps in Mississippi of 25 and weekly workout sessions of 10-15 to no one consistently showing up. Reality hit me but I did not give up.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Canvas Fit – what should we know?
Canvas Fit empowers and encourage.

As a Fitness Specialist, I work with individuals that want to reach personal goals whether it’s physical or mental. Throughout the journey, I encourage them and mold them to love themselves and their canvas (body)! Majority of my training is HIIT (high-intensity interval training) and innovative workouts. I love creating different and fun workouts that gets the job done but also keep you intrigued. I get so much joy watching someone grow right in front of my eyes – whether it’s their physical capability of doing the exercises or just their confidence in themselves.

As a youth mentor, I work with kids from an array of different backgrounds. If you want to talk – I’m here to listen and then LETS GROW! Being that I have an approachable aura it has always been easy for people of all ages to confide in me. I try my best to be open-minded of everything anyone tells me. We get together and establish goals big and small, create action plans, and execute. I have no problem telling these kids things I’ve made it through in life and I try to let them know that there is more paths than the single road they see.

I am proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone because I have always been a shy, timid, overly humble individual. Now when I get in front of a group I’m confident, I have fun, and I’m HEARD which is a big testimony of mines!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am very personable and approachable which helps with everything that I do because people easily are comfortable with me. I’m genuine and honest. I do not have any hidden agendas. I want to help any and everyone that crosses my path. My daily goal is be a positive impact to one person a day.
