Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Young.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chelsea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always wanted to be a hair stylist since the age of seven. I just loved the feeling of making women feel beautiful. Unfortunately, as I got older, I strayed away from my passion and followed in my parent’s dreams of becoming a doctor or nurse until one day, I finally decided that I wanted to follow my own dream and my own passion and become a hair stylist. I moved four hours away from home (Long View, TX) to Houston, Texas and that is where I attended Houston Community College Katy campus in 2013 and graduated in 2015. I now have my own Salon Suite doing what I love and it is the most rewarding best feeling ever.
Has it been a smooth road?
It most definitely has not been a smooth Road. When I first moved to Houston, Texas, I wasn’t able to start cosmetology school right away because my parents could not afford it. My dad told me that his Hazlewood Act will cover my schooling but it doesn’t cover cosmetology schools, so I would have to find a regular College and hope that they offered the cosmetology course. I was searching the internet one day and that is when I saw that Houston Community College Katy campus had the cosmetology program.

I got the name Trendy Styles By Chels from GOD. I know it may sound cliche, but the name literally popped into my head and it has just stuck with me ever since. I did not know why he gave me this name until now. I love doing new trendy styles. I love getting my client’s out of their comfort zone and trying new things, showing them the inner Diva ego they never knew they had. I am mostly known for my braiding, but I specialize in other things such as silk press, Keratin treatments, extensions, natural hair styling and much more. I am most proud of my determination and my drive to make my business the best there is. What sets me apart from others I believe is my talent. There are a million hair stylists, but they aren’t me and no one will ever have my touch and that is what makes me unique. That is what makes everyone unique.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I absolutely believe Houston, Texas is the perfect City to start a business. There is so much diversity and open-minded people that are open to any and everything. Follow your dreams, the sky is the limit.
