Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina A. Huffman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Carl Cherry started Cherry House Moving in 1952. Keith Cherry started working for his dad at a very young age. Now he is Owner and President of the company.
In 1998, my uncle Keith asked me if I could help him out for a few months because he was really busy, and the rest is history.
I am VP of Cherry House Sales, and buy and sell all of the houses to be moved for the company. If you have a vacant lot and need a house, or need help with your permit for the move, I am the person to call.
Has it been a smooth road?
Moving a house is not an easy task. There are so many variables involved. The obstructions along the route in a big city are the biggest problem. If a house is too tall we have to disassemble and reassemble the framing of the roof. If it is too wide we cut the house into 2 or more pieces. We must make sure we fit beneath and between the obstacles.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cherry House Moving – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Cherry House Moving specializes in structural relocation, raising/leveling, and buying/selling houses to be moved. Not only do we move buildings or houses, we move historical structures, locomotives, industrial equipment, any type of heavy hauling.
We are known for the historical moves into Sam Houston Park, moving the Foley and Cohen houses downtown, raising houses out of the flood areas, classroom relocations for various school districts, and saving many houses around Houston from going to the landfill. When we relocate a house, not only are we reducing landfill waste, we are providing affordable housing for many people. There is a lot of charm to these old houses, and a lot of money saved for people who don’t want to pay for, or who can’t afford, new construction.
We take pride in the quality of our work. We like to have a happy customer. I think it is our reputation that sets us apart from others.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Houston cares about the preservation of historic houses. I mean, why would anyone want to see a cute bungalow torn down instead of going to a family who can use it?
Houston has style. The Heights houses, for example, have the architecture that many of our customers seek.
The bad part of moving oversized loads in the big city is all the obstructions and the traffic. We may have to travel half way across the city just to get to the other side of the freeway. In addition, our moving curfew hours are at night. I don’t think Houston would like us if we moved a large house during rush hour traffic, lol.

Would like a very rough estimate to move a house from 1142 Sheffield Blvd. to a location in a residential area in LaPorte Tx. I am trying to gather cost estimates to move a house onto a vacant lot and restoring it instead of buying an older home and restoring it. I am looking at a house you have listed at this address as a reference point. Is there a guide that can tell how much per sq it takes to move a house 1 mile with few obstacles in the way?
Thanks
