Meet Craig and Raquel Jarmosco of DUO Winery & Cider in Dickinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig and Raquel Jarmosco.

Craig and Raquel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Raquel’s mother married her step-father which owns a 46 year-old, 400 acres vineyard in South Michigan. We are proud of how much knowledge he has and all that he accomplished over the years and still maintained a such a humble mind and heart. My dad was hoping we could move to Michigan and help at the winery. We thought about it but we have deep roots in Texas and wouldn’t be able to move. A year passed and my parents planted a seed in my husband’s head about opening our own winery in Texas. We were excited to follow into my dad’s footsteps and honor his legacy in Texas, we named our winery DUO and share with our customers our story. DUO means two, a duet, a pair of closely connected individuals, which is us, our marriage and the love we have for each other that make us fall in love over and over again as our passion for our business grows. The tasting room is decorated as a loft. Our customers become friends and part of the “DUO family”, DUO is where friends and families meet and couples can enjoy our place and wines.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Everybody always told us that the first 5 to 2-3 years are the worse. We created all this with our own hands. Literally, all the walls, every shelf, the bar, the decoration, the logo…everything. It’s been an up and down journey but also a great one. It feels great to see our regulars and receive all the support from our friends and families, customers and local businesses around us.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DUO Winery & Cider Co. story. Tell us more about the business.
We are learning as we grow. My wife is the tasting room manager, customer service, marketing and events director. I’m everything else. I have been “playing around” with the ciders and new flavors for our taps, while everything else comes from our family vineyards down here. As we are able to purchase more wine and cider tanks and machines to bottle and can our products we will be able to produce more and more in our warehouse.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I guess the “luck” would be my mom marrying my dad (smiles). That’s how we ended up here.
