Meet Dalia Carrizales Clark of Daliciousdish in Memorial Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalia Carrizales Clark.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At a young age, my mother passed away with stage 5 colon cancer, which changed my life drastically. To honor my mother, I felt the need to start learning how to cook. At seven years old, I taught myself how to cook simple meals for my brother and father. I am beyond thankful that I had a huge support system from family members, my friend’s mothers’, and even my next door neighbor to help me along the way to teach me basic skills. At age 20, I made the biggest decision for myself after moving from Waco to San Antonio to attend college. I decided to move to Houston and fell in love instantly with the city. I was drawn by the diversity of cultures and was eager to learn how to cook their beautiful dishes. I’ve been in and out of the restaurant industry for about seven years as a server and was inspired by watching the chefs create a masterpiece on a plate.

Growing up, I always thought cooking was something I needed to do for my family, but I realized that cooking was my passion. A major influence was my Aunt Diana, who helped teach me different cooking techniques and discovering what a healthy lifestyle was. When Instagram came out, I started posting a few meals every few weeks and got back such a positive feedback. A few posts every few weeks, became me posting meals every day. The beginning of August, I told my Instagram followers that I officially wanted to start food blogging. I committed myself into a healthy and balanced lifestyle and want to show everyone that healthy meals can be delicious!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be honest, I don’t think it will ever be a smooth road. I struggled with confidence within myself not believing my cooking was good enough to inspire people. There’s days that creating a different dish comes naturally and days that are difficult to find inspiration. With every great recipe there will always be one that people won’t like.

Daliciousdish – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Houston food blogger who creates healthy and balanced meals. Recently my stuffed acorn recipe went viral and was reposted from a popular Instagram account which leads to numerous reposts. My passion, dedication, and constant pursuit of perfection sets me apart from other bloggers. I want to give my followers the support and confidence that they can cook just like me.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It’s the best feeling in the world having people, who you know don’t know, message you thanking you for inspiring them to start cooking. It truly makes my day when people tag me in their posts that they made my recipe and loved it. At the end of the day, my favorite part is still getting to eat what I created with the ones I love and I love that I get to help someone else do that, too.
