Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Jones, Michel Roy, and Sharonda Foster. The awesome trio that makes up Between Us Girls The Podcast.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Danielle – Our journey initially started with five girls. We had a group chat in which we shared all our stuff. Our conversations were lively, to say the least. One day, Michel said if anyone read what we actually talk, about they would be surprised. That thought lead to the idea of having a podcast. Luckily, we had a friend who worked in radio, who was instrumental in helping us transition from an idea to reality.
We had no idea how much work was involved. We literally thought we’d hit record and release. No. Now we understand why so many podcasts end after 20 episodes. From the beginning, we have hit the street running with garnering support from our friends, utilizing our social media platforms, and networking within our community to increase our presence. Now if only Sirius XM will return our calls……
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Michel – Just finding a consistent space to record and really make our podcasting home, we are finally getting into a groove, and we have some great things coming down the pipe.
We have worked out the majority of our kinks after two years, and it’s like we are finally a solid unit.
Danielle – In addition to what Michel said, another struggle has been scheduling. We each live busy lives, have demanding jobs, and families that are needy af, therefore it’s sometimes difficult to get in that studio time. Juggling between everything that’s going on and coordinating amongst ourselves can be somewhat of a challenge.
Please tell us about Between Us Girls.
Between Us Girls features three girls navigating their way life one glass of wine at a time. Our podcast delivers hot fire content every Thursday like Dylan, Dylan, Dylan!
Each week we pick a topic and open a bottle of wine to critique. In the process, we’ve become great value wine connoisseurs. We have an awesome point system that differentiates us from the rest – good or nah. No one else in the wine game is doing that.
The thing we’re most proud of is that we haven’t actually killed each other. That says a lot!!! Seriously, so many opportunities have unfolded that would have never been made available had we not taken that initial step of launching. Opportunities such as being featured in the Houston Chronicle, being asked to partake in a live podcast event in New Orleans, and hosting events. Not to mention the messages we receive from people all over world that say how laughing with us has helped them through their day. Things like that have a way of really staining your heart and making you feel like all the struggles you endure are worth it.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Michel – As a child I loved performing and being in the “stage,” which was actually the fireplace. Doing the show lets me tap into that.
Danielle – I’m originally from Shreveport, La, every year the state fair would come around Halloween, and my aunt would gather all of the kids up to go. We would eat until we were sick and ride everything twice! It was something I would look forward to every year. Oh to be a kid again…
Sharonda – Taking food trips to eat with my grandfather. We would search for the best dive restaurants and mom/pop places to eat. I guess you can say I was groomed to be a foodie, so the chef hat suits me well.
