Meet David Barron of Barron and Barron Photography in League City

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Barron.

Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Barron & Barron Photography is a husband and wife photography team. My wife and I met while working for an ad agency. We are both trained graphic designers but I always had a desire to learn photography. I began learning more and more about photography by hanging out in online photography forums, receiving one-on-one training, reading books, and attending photography seminars led by our “wedding photography idols.” The moment I knew I was on to something was after photographing my sister-in-law’s wedding. I wasn’t the hired pro that day, but I took some black and white artistic photos, and my sister-in-law said she loved my photos more than the ones she paid for. After that experience, I was hooked and began offering to shoot weddings — at first just for the cost of the film and its development. Our first wedding was in 2003, Now 14 years later, with so much experience under my belt, I continue to love shooting weddings. I love interacting with people and that is the key. People trust me to capture their wedding day, and I become an extension of their family on the wedding day. Over the life of our business, I have always been the primary photographer, whereas my wife has been a second shooter and responsible for our marketing. As our family grew, it became difficult to offer two shooters at every wedding. With four kids between the ages of 3 and 13, my wife has downgraded her role in the business and only shoots when a second photographer is hired to document the wedding. We do our best to balance work and family life, and we’ve finally found a pace that suits us.

Has it been a smooth road?
We have had more challenges than we’d like to admit. Both my wife and I are right-brained creatives. So we’ve had to develop the left brained areas — such as organization and planning ahead. The creative side comes easily to us. But those dreaded left-brained activities! I’m a big believer in transparency so that others can learn from our mistakes. In 2006 and 2007, we were overbooked and still shooting JPG instead of RAW, which means we had to edit each photo individually. One at a time. This was a huge headache and we were so far behind in editing that some of our weddings took between 4 to 6 months to view. This was our biggest mistake and we made many clients upset. Since then, we have learned to shoot RAW and now our clients see their gallery of images 10-14 days after the wedding.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Barron & Barron Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our studio is located in the historic League City under the giant oaks. We specialize in weddings, engagements, bridals, and high school senior portraits. We are aiming to expand into corporate events as well. We are most proud of our dedication to improving our craft, our longevity as a small business, and our desire to use our gifts to serve others. There is no barrier to entry into the field of photography like there once was, and so the competition grows every day. Running a photography business is not easy, but I am most proud of the fact that we offer an excellent product and people can trust us to capture the moments expertly.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love about the city is also what I dislike about it. It is so huge! There are plenty of beautiful locations where we can shoot, and there are plenty of weddings each weekend to keep us busy. But when it’s time to recharge, I like to go out in nature, and I find it takes forever to escape the cityscape.
