Today, we’d like to introduce you to Devane Boyd. Devane was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Reggie Haynes.
Devane , thank you so much for joining us today. We’d love for you to bring our readers up to speed – can you introduce yourself and share your story?
I originally started by taking part in classes and theatre shows at my local theatre “The Oxford Playhouse.
From there I took part in my theatre productions around town till I eventually joined the National Youth Theatre and shortly after auditioned for drama school and offered a place.
Since Than I’ve been a working actor mostly having working Actor doing various shows and tours around the UK & Europe.
Alright, so we’d love to learn more about your acting career. What should we know?
Having spent 2 out of the 5 years since I graduated touring I have definitely grown in terms of my ability to adapt and perform anywhere at anytime in a whole variety of spades. Being in a foreign language country too also changed how conscious I am of my vocal communication to the audience and how you convey a story to a forge in audience as opposed to one in your home country. When it comes to acting I love the experience of creating a character and taking from all roads of life whether that be art I’ve seen, people I’ve met, historical figures music, etc and amalgamating this all into a performance that brings a unique fictional individual to life.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Reggie Haynes and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Reggie.
I met Reggie while working on a project with his wife’s theatre company “Khem Productions and what struck me throughout the filming of that project and when Reggie told me about this one was his enthusiasm and clarity of vision. You see enthusiasm like that and you want to be part of that’s persons vision and do your best to bring it to life in the best way possible.
It was attractive and important to me to take place in this project as, I wanted to challenge myself as an actor giving a performance in a mask and having to convey emotions and expression more Through my body and voice than through my facial expressions and I wanted to be part of a project that represented black people in a sci fi/fantasy action genre which has happened more often recently but I still feel there are many unexplored stories to be told from black creatives in these genres that we were typically excluded for so long, soo will always take the opportunity to bring one of them to the screen or stage.
