Meet Dion (Dj Lefty) Rolle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dion (Dj Lefty) Rolle.

Dion (Dj Lefty), let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hailing from Nassau, The Bahamas. It was over the years, I accumulated the Dj name “DJ Lefty”. My story starts out in a little town in Oklahoma where I was attending North Eastern Oklahoma A&M Junior College at the time. It was in my idle and free time that I decided to play around with virtual DJ. There was always a love for music in me, stemming from my time spent in the Marching Band arena. My talents grew as I would throw small parties at the college with just my Gateway laptop and one speaker. During the summers, I would take my talents back home to The Bahamas playing in local Latin clubs. It was at this point I was able to challenge myself as I grew my versatility in music. My versatility ranges from mixing many music genres, from hip hop music to Latin music, dancehall music to country music, soca to reggae music and many other genres. This allows me to be a dj from many different types of crowd.

I then matriculated into Houston, Texas where I received a band scholarship with Texas Southern University’s “Ocean Of Soul”. I had to face the reality of a fresh start in my career. Understanding the need to network, I decided to Dj Pro Bono for local promoters and college parties in Houston. Aside from this, I utilized my resources like Soundcloud to post mixes of the work I would do in my spare time. It was through these humbling experiences I was able to grow not only my skills but also my credibility as a DJ. I admit that the process was not easy, but my talents made room for me despite of. From humble beginnings, I am the Dj I am today because of my journey. I am a dj you should get to know. Playing music and listening to it was my therapy in life. Music helped me through the time in my life when my father was murdered and becoming a dj gave me a new look and happiness in life. I also wanna thank God for blessing me with the talent.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey to this point hasn’t been easy. Coming from the Bahamas, it was harder to build a name over here. Whether it was not having all the resources, to lack of support from those around me, my journey to becoming the DJ I am now was undoubtedly difficult. However, I’m appreciative of the process, because I now have a greater respect for where I am today.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My versatility in music. My versatility ranges from mixing many music genres, from hip hop music to Latin music, dancehall music to country music, soca to reggae music and many other genres. This allows me to be a dj from many different types of crowd. I stand out because I consider myself to be a human jukebox being able to play, mix and understand all the different genres of music. I can be placed at any event an get the job done.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
To continue to grow as a dj. To travel as dj, to be a dj in the Houston night club sense and also the world. To prove my worth as a dj, I can stand with the known disc jockeys.
