Meet Edna Balboa of Body Flow Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edna Balboa.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Edna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a yoga teacher since 2003. In 2012 I was laid off from my position as director of community outreach. I decided to go back to school for a Masters degree. As a way to support myself I started teaching yoga to private clients. I enjoyed it so much I have continued to work with clients, companies and non-profit organizations.

I work with clients that have limitations such as hip replacement, rotator cuff tears, wrist injuries, herniated disc, and amputations. I also facilitate wellness workshops for corporations, and I lead trauma-informed yoga classes/workshops for those coping with domestic violence and sexual abuse. I love working with people and helping them discover the best versions of themselves.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being self-employed is challenging. I had to learn to be assertive when it comes to my fees and payments. The business side of yoga is not something one learns in yoga teacher training. I have had to learn how to market, present and advocate for business. It can be feast or famine at times, so budgeting is imperative.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Body Flow Fitness – what should we know?
My specialty is personalized and custom yoga classes offered to individuals, groups and corporate businesses. I believe that everybody, mind, and spirit is unique and I tailor our sessions based on your specific needs. Whether you are a complete beginner to yoga, an injured athlete or dancer, an expecting mother or anyone who suffers from anxiety and or trauma, I can help you achieve your goals and regain strength in the areas needed. I am known for being getting results!

I am most proud of the fact that my clients keep coming back, and they recommend me to their friends and family. What sets me apart is that I am not only a yoga teacher with 15 years of experience but I am also a psychotherapist, this allows me to connect the mind and body aspects of yoga.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that being a person of my word is the most important quality I have to offer to my clients, I am honest and open from the beginning. Together my clients and I set realistic and achievable goals.
