Meet Kristina McDaniel of Egoscue of Houston in Midtown-Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina McDaniel.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back in 2010, I was introduced to Dr. Mark Adickes an Orthopedic Surgeon, now practicing at Baylor. Dr. Adickes is a former NFL football player who suffered from back pain which almost ended his career in the NFL. Dr. Adickes found The Egoscue Method and long story short, The Egoscue Method relieved Dr. Adickes of his back pain and he continued to play in the NFL, won a super-bowl retired and then became an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Adickes really wanted an Egoscue Clinic to be opened in the city of Houston as he believes in the method and knows it will help people who are suffering from chronic pain that surgery will not solve. After researching the Egoscue Method, I fell in love with the Method and three years later after completing my certifications opened a The Egoscue Clinic of Houston. We have been open since 2011 and most of our clients coming from the referrals of other clients. We currently have two therapist working full time at the clinic. The Egoscue Method is a franchise, and there are now 28 clinics and growing open in the U.S. Although the referral business is a slow growth our clients are the best ever and help us with new business by sending their friends and family to us to help them get out of pain. The Egoscue Method has a 95% success rate. We are currently working with The Clinical Research Center (CERC) at Stanford Medicine and Harvard University as part of a national spine study designed to assess its effectiveness in reducing or ending low back and neck pain. Thus far, our participants have seen a 41% decrease in pain severity, 62% improvement in disability and an 18% increase in the quality of life and this is based on the small pilot study completed January 2019. We are so excited to have the opportunity to get the word out with Houston Voyage to more Houstonians who may be suffering from chronic pain and have tried everything, we are here to help you.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any small business, there are always bumps in the road. I have never owned a business before and with my background and my business management degree, I felt ready to give it a try. Besides, I am so passionate about The Egoscue Method that believing alone in the success of the method would be worth taking the risk of opening an unknown business in our city. Of course, the biggest hurdle was and still is getting the word out about The Egosuce Method so that people would know that we are here in the city and we are helping our clients get out of pain and live a pain-free lifestyle. Getting the right employees was also somewhat of a challenge, honest loving caring people are the types we need and not everyone can live up to those qualities if they do not really possess them, to begin with.

Egoscue of Houston – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Egoscue Method is a specialized form of postural alignment therapy for chronic pain and to increase functional mobility. The Egoscue Method is a world leader in eliminating chronic pain without drugs or surgery.

The therapy is a simple and effective way of restoring the posture using corrective exercises that align the spine and joints allowing for a pain-free lifestyle.

We treat the Position of the body, not the Condition, and we focus on healing the root cause of the pain. We analyze the alignment of the joints and spine. We look at the shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles, as a guideline to discovering the dysfunctions and compensations. We study the misalignments to develop a series of active and passive corrective exercises and put together a personalized program designed exclusively for presenting dysfunctions and compensations. The menu of exercises each individual receives is designed to mitigate pain, align and strengthen the body which retrains the muscles to correctly maintain joint position creating the proper balance for alignment and a pain-free body. Clients will feel the difference after their first visit. The Egoscue Method is a process, clients are successful and become pain free by following the 3 most important elements of the program which are doing your menu of exercises every day, showing up for their scheduled appointments and communicating with their therapist, We are most proud of the National Spine Study being conducted with Stanford/Harvard the results are in from the pilot study and The Egoscue Method is ranking very high in success rates. The main study is underway and The Egoscue Method of Houston is one of the clinics selected to participate with Stanford Medicine using local health system for its referrals. The Egoscue Method of Houston is different from other modalities because we are looking for the root cause of your pain and not focusing on the symptom. Often the site of the pain is not the root of the pain. Our staff is excellent in discovering those root causes based on the position of the body and not the condition of the body.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I would have to say that I have proud moments every day in our clinic. These moments are not about me they are about our clients and when they start to understand their own body and how amazing it is. When they make the connection between poor alignment and their pain. We celebrate with our clients when they start to feel better and they get that little twinkle in their eye… when they start believing in themselves again. These are the moments that I am most proud of. It’s when we are able to give our knowledge and guidance to our clients and they see and feel the changes in their body and in their pain levels. Believing in one’s self that they can get better is a defining moment and we celebrate that with our clients.

Hello, Christina. This is Carla, the old woman who does martial arts. I’m about to have my fourth test toward a black belt. Just want you to know that I’m still doing well. Thank you for helping me. I appreciate you.

Two years ago, I broke my leg walking across the street front my house. I was walking with my friend, she tripped and fell. I tried to catch her, but failed. She fell on top of my leg and broke it. I now have a rod that goes my ankle to my knee with Just an expected but tragic accident. I broke my tibia and knee. I was bed ridden for 4 months. 6 months of therapy followed with no improvement. My right knee, hip and, back hurt from the injury. I had a second surgery on my knee for scar tissue. Which I am sure would not have happened if I would have discovered Egoscue earlier… with the first 4 therapies with Egoscue, I stopped using my cane and didn’t feel any more pain in my leg or back. I attribute all my improvement to Egoscue. I hope that others can find healing as I did. Thank you to Kristina for being so patient and compassionate.

I suffered from a bicycle accident and was never the same. I went to multiple massage therapists, chiropractors and physical therapists over a 6-year period, and continued to be in chronic pain. I was losing hope that I would ever be pain-free. I finally found Egoscue and Kristina. She was amazing. My first visit gave me me a ray of hope because I felt better after my first set of realignment exercises. Kristina explained that I needed to do the exercises every day in order to retrain my body and maintain alignment. I saw Kristina once a week, and she updated my exercises. I only needed treatment for about 6 months, and then I was on my own pain free! What I learned, has carried over. Recently, I got in a minor car wreck and suffered some whip lash. I immediately started doing an Egoscue exercise that had previously helped my neck in order to realign myself and get rid of the pain. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for Kristina and Egoscue! I have an active life, and it is so nice to do things pain free! I
