Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Ford.
Eric, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I realized in 7th Grade I wanted to work in Media, from there I started to take my writing seriously, signing up for all related classes, joining every club related to my field all the way up to graduating high school. I attended Texas Southern University shortly after, where I majored in Print Journalism and minored in Creative Writing.
This is where I fell in love with Fashion, and I wanted to bridge those gaps of Media & Fashion into one career. From there, I took on a few internships to grow by experience hands-on. I have worked under Joy Sewing of HOUSTON Chronicle, became a Fashion Writer at HOUSTON Style Magazine, was mentored by Ashley Dunn, On-Air Style Expert; even became the Fashion & Managing Editor of the TSU Yearbook. From graduating in 2015, I became self-employed, under the title, Kidd Ford, where I offer the services of Social Media Management, Styling, and Digital Branding, which lead me to my first contracted job with Inclan Studio as their PR Manager. All of my experiences guides me to move to NYC, Jan 2018 to pursue my dream career as a Digital Director/Creative Director within the Fashion & Media Industry. I am currently living in Brooklyn as a Freelance Digital Coordinator.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My life has always been a huge challenge. As talented as I am, somehow I managed to hit an abundance of brick walls, still do honestly. I am working so hard every day to work towards my happiness. Opportunities are very slim to none for me, so for everything I have been able to do, I am so grateful. At the same time, it’s been a massive struggle dealing with not winning lately, depression, and minor other complications, especially now living in NYC. Life is not easy.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Freelance Digital Coordinator that creates and manages visual digital content via social and online. I am mostly known for my social media work, iPhone photography, and styling. My most proud and I am grateful for the people who have supported me from Houston to NYC. I have a unique creativity that can’t be copied, it’s distinct, it’s one of a kind, and I think that set me apart way before I knew. I have a gift, despite the challenges I face in life, how sad I get, I do know that to be true.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I mentioned it before but my biggest role models have been Ashley Dunn, Joy Sewing, Tiyosha Turner (My TSU Yearbook Book Mentor), and now Emil Wilbiken, who has taken me under his wing now that I live in NYC. I also want to give a huge shoutout to my Kidd Ford team who has been so supportive to me even till this day, I would have not been here without them as well. Also, everyone that ever drove me somewhere for shoots, given me money for food, bought me food, talked to me when I was down and depressed, came to all my events, loved on me. It’s so many names! Of course, my immediate family has been there through all my trials, and have been a huge support to me while in NYC as I am now rising to get on my feet.
