Today we’d like to introduce you to Frances Walsh.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Started out of my home, doing mostly cakes for family and friends. Then I got an account at an exclusive hotel in Houston, and worked out of their kitchen until we got our 1st location, which we took over another bakery. We have moved our location 3 times, now we are in an expansion of the final location, which we have been at for 7 years. Over all we have been in business 20 plus years. We grew mostly from word of mouth and from our cakes including wedding cakes. Now we have a full-service retail bakery/cafe.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not smooth at all, getting your monthly costs to where you can afford to stay in business is the biggest challenge. Finding great employees has been the next challenge, you get so busy you cannot do it all yourself like you used to, so it is crucial that you have talented help. I have learned so much about machines, as they break down often, and you have to know when and who to call or do it yourself. Road contrition is the current problem. We have a lot of ideas on remodeling and updating our kitchen, it’s hard deciding what to do 1st because you have to be smart about spending money.
