Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather McCutcheon.
Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t a straight line, but looking back, I can see God’s hand in every step of the journey.
I graduated from Michigan State University with an engineering degree and began my career working offshore in the oilfield. After my first child was born, I stepped away from engineering to stay home and raise our family. My husband and I have five children, and being a stay-at-home mom was a season of life that I truly loved and deeply valued.
As my children got older, I started thinking more about what the next chapter of my life might look like. For so many years, my identity had been centered around being a mom and wife, and I found myself wondering what purpose God might have for me as my children became more independent.
During that season, I became involved in our church and trained as a Stephen Minister. I spent time walking alongside women who were hurting, struggling in their marriages, facing crises, or carrying burdens they didn’t know how to set down. I quickly realized how much I was drawn to sitting with people in those hard places. There was something deeply meaningful about helping someone feel seen, heard, and not alone.
The more I did that work, the more I realized I wanted additional training and tools to help women heal in a deeper way. While I could offer compassion, encouragement, and support, I wanted the clinical knowledge and skills to help women move beyond surviving and into true healing. That realization led me back to school to earn my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
What I didn’t expect was how much I would love this work. Even now, there are moments when I’m sitting with a client and quietly thanking God for bringing me here. It is an incredible honor to be trusted with someone’s story and to walk alongside women as they heal, rebuild, and rediscover who they are.
Looking back, I can see how every season of my life prepared me for this one. Today, I truly feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be, doing the work God called me to do. My heart is full.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Going back to school after being out of the classroom for so many years was definitely challenging. I still had children at home, so balancing motherhood with full-time graduate classes was not always easy. During my final year, I was completing my internship full-time while also finishing coursework, and there were moments when I truly questioned whether I could keep going. I remember thinking, “This is crazy,” and feeling ready to give up.
Thankfully, I had incredibly supportive family and friends who encouraged me to keep pushing through when things felt overwhelming. Looking back now, I’m so grateful I didn’t quit. The journey stretched me in ways I never expected, but it also confirmed how deeply passionate I am about helping people and how meaningful it is to me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My counseling practice was founded on a deep passion for helping women and what I believe was God’s clear leading in my life. I specialize in helping women rediscover themselves after they’ve lost pieces of who they are through difficult relationships, betrayal trauma, or years spent pouring into others as caregivers, wives, and mothers. Many of the women I work with feel emotionally exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or unsure of who they are outside of caring for everyone else. My passion is helping them rebuild confidence, reconnect with their identity, and learn not just to survive difficult seasons, but to truly thrive again.
What sets me apart is that this work is deeply personal to me. I have walked through hard seasons myself, and I understand what it feels like to lose yourself while trying to hold everything together. Because of that, I bring both professional training and genuine compassion into the counseling room. My hope is that clients know they are walking into a space where they will be deeply cared for, heard without judgment, and supported with both empathy and practical tools for healing. In addition to individual sessions, I offer group support — a place for my clients to connect with others who truly get it, and to be reminded that they’re not walking this path by themselves.
One of the things I’m most proud of brand-wise is the heart behind my practice. I truly believe every person already has the strength and capacity inside of them to heal, grow, and rediscover who they are. Sometimes they simply need someone to walk alongside them, help them feel safe, and remind them of their worth along the way.
I offer individual counseling both in-person for women in the Katy, Fulshear, and Richmond areas and virtually throughout Texas, as well as in-person group counseling for women in those same areas. My hope is that every client leaves feeling more empowered, more grounded, and more hopeful about their future.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that it’s never too late to discover a new passion or step into a new purpose. Life has a beautiful way of unfolding in seasons, and I’ve learned that God can continue opening new doors and calling us into meaningful work at any stage of life.
Another lesson has been that growth often comes from stretching yourself beyond what feels comfortable. Going back to school and starting a completely new career later in life required a lot of faith, perseverance, and support from the people around me, but every step of the journey has been worth it.
Most of all, I’ve learned the value of trusting where God is leading. Looking back, I can see how each experience prepared me for the work I do now, and I feel incredibly grateful to spend my days helping women heal, grow, and rediscover hope. It’s deeply fulfilling work, and I truly love what I do.
