Meet Hector and Raquel Gonzalez of Lunabela Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector and Raquel Gonzalez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Los Angeles, CA but I was raised in Mexicali Baja California, Mexico (Chicali). My grandparents played a big role in my life, I learned to listen and work hard for the things I want. I started working at the age of 8 years old so being responsible was a must, my schedule was a simple school to work, from work to home and repeat. From the bad choices to the good choices, everything was put in place by our creator (God) to bring me to where I’m at.

My Grandpa was an excellent man, he teaches more of life that one can wish for, he was a strong personality man but with such a big heart, he was always giving me advice, three of the most important ones in my life were 1; “portese bien, porque donde quiera que usted vaya sera bien tratado” 2: “Lo unico que el hombre tiene de valor, es su palabra, si usted promete algo, cumplalo” and 3 “Trabaje duro y sea honesto, pero sobre todo no olvide de donde viene”. This three sayings will follow me trough all my life, they are my life and business models, and believe it or not, he was right. My customers know me for who I am, I don’t hide anything from them, I’m a very straight forward person with a really soft hard for kindness and love.

I’m a Graphic Designer by profession, I started as a little boy doing lots of drawings of my favorite cartoons and super heroes. While in school, lots of people start noticing me more for my ability to draw, so I started seeing an opportunity to sell my drawings and started making money that a kid can only dream of. Selling and starting businesses it’s in my blood. I grew up watching my mom and grandma selling door to door, every single day many products, like Avon, lingerie, perfumes etc, so I learned from the best.

In 2005 I meet the most beautiful Venezuelan girl that I can only dream of; Raquel.

Raquel and I started dating online back then when the AOL and MSN messenger was the “thing” haha, I still remember the long nights talking and talking about the big dreams of a beautiful and easy marriage and oh man… Beautiful Marriages exists but to a price, right? Haha. Raquel and I are really similar in character, tough on the outside soft on the inside. Being parents to 4 children it’s not an easy task, while I’m out there making money, doing photoshoot and looking for more clients, she is at home taking care of every little single detail of our needs, she is amazing, I couldn’t imagine a single day pass by without her by my side handling things like a boss.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Without a doubt one of the most important challenges on our lives was to transition from both of us having full-time jobs to being full-time business owners and dedicating ourselves to our business, to make the decision to leave our jobs to be able to make Lunabela Photography grow while taking care of our growing beautiful family, but one thing is for sure, that without a risk there is no reward, now we know.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lunabela Photography – what should we know?
2010 was the first year for our business, Lunabela Photography was born, everything started with personal family photos posted to Facebook and other social media websites that started getting some attention and we started to get requests to do photoshoots.

Back then nobody knew us, we were the new kid on the block so basically, we gave most of our hard work for free to build our portfolio. Since then we do more than just Photography. 2012 came with a big success when we decided to limit our business primarily in shooting Quinceañeras and Wedding events and expanding our services to every corner of Texas.

We are currently capable of covering many events per night with our Photo & Video services, we work hand to hand with our independent clients and clients who already signed a contract with our partner Venues/Halls around the whole entire Houston area to capture their once in a lifetime event with the most beautiful and natural Photography and Videography there is. We do travel if the client lives out of town or out of the country.

Lunabela Photography it’s not defined by prices but by what we have to offer, the real human old school face to face interaction and the heart to listen to the needs of our valuable clientele.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
God deserves the credit since he put in our hearts the desire to have this business and to make it grow. Without him, this business would not exist. Our biggest supporters have been our families, helping us with the little things, running errands, babysitting, making sure we are still sane.

Lunabela runs on the main principle; “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for[a] you serve the Lord Christ.” – Col. 3:23-24.
