Meet Holly Cotton of Holly Cotton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Cotton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey has been anything but traditional, and I think that’s what makes it so special. I started my career in healthcare, earning my Master’s in Nursing and eventually being recognized by the Houston Chronicle as one of the Top 150 Nurses. But I’ve always known I had more than one passion, and I refused to put myself in a box.

I’m also a cancer survivor, and that experience changed the way I look at life. It made me more intentional about how I spend my time, the experiences I have, and the impact I want to leave.

Over the years, I’ve written more than 20 books, become a wellness and mental health authority, and launched Your Mind, Your Magic, an initiative that provides free mental wellness resources for young people. I’m passionate about helping people, especially women, realize that they can reinvent themselves at any stage of life.

More recently, I’ve stepped into the media and entertainment space with The Insider with Holly Cotton, where I take people behind the scenes of sports, entertainment, travel, and unique experiences. I love showing people what it’s actually like to be there, not just what looks good in pictures.

I think the biggest thing about my story is that I never stopped evolving. I can be passionate about mental health, write books, cover a football game, travel the world, and encourage women to live boldly. I don’t believe we have to choose just one version of ourselves. I’m still growing, still trying new things, and definitely still having fun along the way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! And I think that’s the part people don’t always see. I’ve had some amazing opportunities, but I’ve also had my share of setbacks, disappointments, and moments when I questioned what I was doing.

Being a cancer survivor definitely changed my perspective on life. When you’ve faced something that makes you question your future, you start looking at everything differently. I learned that life is too short to keep putting things off or waiting for the perfect time.

Another challenge has been getting people to see me beyond one title. I worked hard for my education and accomplishments in healthcare, but I also have so many other interests and talents. Sometimes people have a hard time accepting that you can be successful in one area and still want to pursue something completely different.

And let’s not forget the challenges of building your own brand! There are plenty of doors that don’t open, emails that go unanswered, and opportunities you have to create for yourself. I’ve had to learn not to take every rejection personally.

But one thing about me, I’m going to figure it out! I may have to change the plan, take a different route, or start all over, but I’m not afraid to try. I think that’s what I’m most proud of. Not that everything worked out perfectly, but that I never allowed the difficult moments to convince me that I was done growing.

We’ve been impressed with Holly Cotton, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think what makes my brand different is that I don’t fit into just one category, and I actually love that about myself! At the heart of everything I do is helping people live better, whether that’s mentally, emotionally, physically, or simply getting out and enjoying life.

I’m an author, wellness expert, media personality, and entrepreneur. I’ve written over 20 books covering everything from self-love and relationships to mental health and personal growth. My goal has always been to create content that people can actually relate to and use in their everyday lives. I don’t just want to motivate people for five minutes. I want them to walk away with something that makes a difference.

One of my proudest accomplishments is founding Your Mind, Your Magic, a youth mental wellness initiative that provides free affirmation books and resources for children, parents, and educators. Mental health support shouldn’t be something families can only access if they can afford it. Making those resources available for free is something I’m extremely passionate about.

Another exciting part of my brand is The Insider with Holly Cotton, my media series where I take viewers inside sports, entertainment, travel, and lifestyle experiences. I’m not the person who just shows up, takes a pretty picture, and leaves. I want to know what’s happening behind the scenes, what makes an experience worth attending, and all those little things people wish they knew before going. I love having fun, and I want my audience to feel like they’re right there with me.

I also use my platform to advocate for women’s health, cancer awareness, youth mental wellness, and issues affecting underserved communities. Being able to combine my healthcare background with storytelling, education, and entertainment gives me a unique perspective.

What I’m most proud of is that my brand has grown with me without losing its purpose. I can be discussing serious mental health issues one day and interviewing athletes or exploring a new city the next. Both sides are authentically me.

If there’s one thing I want readers to know, it’s that my brand is really about living fully. Taking care of your mind, protecting your peace, trying something new, laughing a little louder, and not being afraid to reinvent yourself. I want people to see what I’m doing and think, “You know what? I can do that too!”

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Houston is the culture! It’s such a diverse city, and there’s always something happening. The food, the music, the sports, the people, the festivals, I love how you can experience so many different cultures without ever leaving the city. Houston has so much personality, and I think that’s what makes it special. It’s also one of the reasons I love creating lifestyle and entertainment content here. There’s always something new to discover.

Now, what do I like least? THE TRAFFIC! Houston will humble you real quick! You can live 15 miles from somewhere and still need to leave an hour early. And don’t even get me started on how one little accident can turn a quick trip into a whole road trip! But as much as I complain about the traffic, I still love my city.
