Today we’d like to introduce you to Bart Peterschick.
Bart, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2010, Humble Sign Co was a side business to the owner of an auto mechanic shop. It was a two man printing company, and that’s being generous! In the midst of a horrible economy, I found myself under-employed and with a bleak future, suddenly along came the opportunity to purchase this ailing print shop. To be sure, this was an industry I knew zero about! With little to lose, I was easily all in and completely determined to get control of my future.
Humble Sign Co’s team now consists of 30+ people and five million in sales.
The early years consisted of plenty of late nights and weekends though. I can remember a couple of times when I knew we were pressed to get a big (big at that time) job completed before Friday or we wouldn’t make payroll!
A primary ingredient to our success is -cliché – the people. You have to take care of them, pay them well, motivate, inspire and train. I worked for many of small businesses in the past. In doing so, I learned that a little appreciation can do wonders for moral.
Late this year we will be breaking ground on our new facility. This will give us the room we need to grow to the next level. Can’t wait!
Has it been a smooth road?
Any legitimate sign company has to have a bucket truck. The problem was… they’re not cheap!
I was completely frustrated with sub-contracting this out due to poor service and high costs. We would miss commitments to clients because we were at the mercy of people that didn’t care they way we did.
This motivated me to take a huge gamble: I spent 80% of our cash flow to buy a used bucket truck. As a young company, we couldn’t get financing for this. So, we stacked up as many jobs as possible before taking delivery and put it to work on day one! In the end, it worked out to be a great decision. That truck is still in service today!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Humble Sign Co story. Tell us more about the business.
Humble Sign Co is custom sign design build company. We produce nearly everything in-house, from design to install, the work is performed by our team.
Our primary focus is storefront electrical signage. Although we do so much more, such as vehicle graphics and dimensional lettering.
We work hard to offer a great product and an exceptional price, aka value. Often times we have to take a step back and ask, are we being too critical of ourselves and our work? We are our toughest critic! This doesn’t always make things easy, but it has been a driving factor to our overall value. As a result, we’re one of the highest rated sign companies in Houston according to our on-line reviews.

This is Bart’s Aunt Shirley in Cheyenne, Wyoming. We are all extremely proud of him and his philosophy of life which is mimicked in his work ethic. It is wonderful to see it all so beautifully showcased. Way to go, Bart!
