Dhanvi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ilume Artistry Co was founded during a time when all seemed dark and needed much light. My idea was to provide illumination by providing my clients a boost of confidence through professional makeup and hair. I grew up with a keen eye for beauty and aesthetics. My family has many stories of me at a young age pretending to glam and pamper! My childhood whimsy consisted of many glam rich fantasy. My very first bridal experience dates back to 2013 when my sister was getting married and entrusted me with her special day. During this time, I was headed in a completely different direction, a more corporate direction. However, once I did her makeup and hair I decided to trust myself and take a leap of faith. I applied to a thriving makeup brand (MAC Cosmetics) for a job and learned many skills and techniques during my tenure. Ilume Artistry Co was founded on believing in oneself and transforming moments into memories with a touch of a brush and some light.
Has it been a smooth road?
We have faced many struggles just as any startup might. As an entrepreneur, it’s all a challenge of persistence of will. You see those around you progressing in a ladder-like method whereas, you have to grow something from the ground up, just as a flower entrepreneurship must be fed, nurtured and looked after and it is still not guaranteed to grow. It takes that extra ray of sunlight to illuminate the path forward.

Ilume Artistry Co specializes and prides itself on having strong roots and knowledge for every skin type, age, and tone. We are well known for our versatility in providing the right look for every occasion. South Asian weddings call for a very specific aesthetic and we go above and beyond to culturally appropriate hairstyles, clothing pin-ups, and makeup. We work with many ladies and gentlemen from various cultures and this is something that shows we promote diversity in both aesthetic and culture.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is a great location for a start-up business. We are a mix up of many different cultures and backgrounds. There is enough success in the world for all no matter what type of business you specialize in.
