Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamal Carson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jamal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It’s only befitting to start from the very beginning so readers can better understand who I am today. April 14, 1997, in Florida, my mother went into labor with me unexpectedly at home at 2 am. There was no way at the time to get a hold of emergency services, nor did any neighbors come to the door when my sister went for help. To sum it up, my mom and sister delivered me right there. I wasn’t supposed to make it. We set for five hours until my father got home from working overnight. Once EMT arrived, my body temperature was so low I had to be wrapped in aluminum to contain it. Throughout the years growing up and coming into myself, I quickly learned everything I went through as a baby was for a greater purpose.
At the age five, I began my journey as a singer. Now being 23 years old through my years, I’ve had many opportunities along various artists. As a solo independent artist who writes and produces his own work, it is imperative that I reintroduce myself as an art in such a manner. Me and my six siblings were raised by our grandmother up until we began to be abused. This was just another obstacle that was built to further make me into the man I am today. Later having to go into the foster system tonight me confidence and gave me the mindset to withstand whatever life brings my way. Not letting the hardships of life stop me, I began as a teen to work on my craft and soon landed my first big opportunity on a local TV show back home in Jacksonville, Florida. From there, I’ve had the opportunity to sing behind many artists and now working to mark my place as an established one myself.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being raised by my grandmother wasn’t the greatest deal. Though I love and appreciate her so much, it became hard as abuse started. Some days I didn’t recognize my face from being beaten when I had simply done something wrong as a teen. Of course, I had my ways but it became evident there was a serious issue at hand. Having to go into foster car and separating from my siblings was a great obstacle. But we endured it dearly. I remember a time I was really young before we lived with my grandma. My mom and dad would fight a lot. And one particular time he hurt her so bad in Infront of us, it was hard to watch as a kid. Everyday as a gay black male artist, it’s different obstacles I face. But I’m grateful to have the opportunity to matter.

As a solo artist, producer, writer, poet, I take pride and honor in my work and art. I work tirelessly on different music and pieces to showcase. I have a new EP coming this winter that I’m absolutely excited about. Streaming soon on all platforms. In the meantime, I’m constantly writing and performing at venues in the Houston area.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe I’m ultimately blessed. I’m blessed to be where I am today with my gift and art. I know this is only the beginning and I have yet to reach the first mile of this journey.
