Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Johnson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My partner and I have been involved in the fitness industry and lifestyle for basically a lifetime. I grew up in Northwest Houston where I took to activities such as basketball, football, and karate at a young age. From junior high through college I was always involved in either club level basketball or Taekwondo. While in college, I fell in love with the more formal side of the fitness industry, and personal training. I worked for Ballys as a trainer through the remainder of my college days. This, combined with my continued practice of martial arts gave an opportunity to interact directly with people from all walks of life and fitness levels. As clients have come and gone over the course of my training career, the main issue that I have encountered is getting the training, motivation, diet and lifestyle choice to stick with clients for the long-term. Getting them to stick it out when the training is tough or when the results don’t come as fast as most people would like. While reading, “Living the Martial Way”, by Forrest Morgan, I came across a passage where he discussed finding “Kokoro” or heart as a step in attaining the focus of the life force. The more I researched this idea, the more I grew to believe that Kokoro which is also referred to as “will” must be the foundation for my clients in their fitness training. After conversations with my partner and finding a mutual understanding of what our brand will be based in, Kokoro Warrior Fitness was born.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes, there have been some challenges. The largest is probably getting the word out us about what we offer. We care very deeply about each of our clients and because we are still a new small organization we are able to offer that personal touch that others in our business may not be able offer. Other challenges can be attributed to the growing pains any new company would face i.e. website going down or the company email not receiving messages. All necessary in my opinion and apart of the learning curve.
Kokoro Warrior Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
In Japanese, Kokoro refers to the will of the “Spirit”. It implies a will that is unbreakable. The Samurai served as the nobility and guardians of ancient Japan. Every now and again a Samurai would be called to test his Kokoro “Spirit” and demonstrate his will as a warrior. Today in modern times we too are sometimes tested, and forced to prove to our iron “Kokoro”.
Kokoro Warrior Fitness is an elite customized physical fitness training ideology for champions of all athletic levels We test the grit of our clients pushing them toward constant improvements physically, mentally, and spiritually. Only through balance in these areas can we guarantee a higher quality of life. Through vigorous training our goal is to create an experience that enhances Kokoro (Warrior Spirit). We are proud most of our original ideology and our training programs. Our athletes are changing their lives and the lives of their families and that’s what this is about. We want to initiate real impact that last.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is about a legacy. It’s about laying a foundation that our kids can build upon. Establishing a brand that is known throughout the industry. When we turn on the TV and one of our athletes is completing the Boston marathon, or winning the Superbowl, running for senate, or advancing cancer research, these are the markers that lets us know we got it right!
