Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeslyn Hebert.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I had always “doodled” if you will, on my school work. Constantly I would hear, “you have a passion for art”. Moving onto college I went through many degree changes, finally leading me back to art; specifically graphic design. Who knew you could make art on a computer for a living? Fast forward to my senior year at Lamar University and I was approached to take over the Beaumont Country Club marketing. After about a year of proving myself, I took over their marketing for print work and social media, helped edit their website, then transitioned into social media marketing for their other companies; WOW Food Concepts Catering and Cheddar’s Casual Cafe. With this step into the marketing door, I found I loved the combination of designing advertisements for businesses, while growing their social media presence. During this time, I freelanced as well, taking logo design commissions, created flyer templates and also worked full-time, as a graphic designer for CHRISTUS Health System. After several years of wanting to move up the ladder in the corporate world, I realized I had a greater passion for working on my own, and creating connections with local businesses, in the greater Beaumont area. I officially left CHRISTUS halfway through August of 2019, formed J. Agency, which has now grown to J. Agency Group, and have not looked back. We now manage over ten companies’ social media platforms, create branding from start to finish and offer website design.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The transition from the corporate world, which I had the opportunity to one day become manager, then director, was hard to walk away from. I found comfort, as anyone would, in knowing exactly how much I would make monthly, along with great benefits; that included insurance and investment opportunities. It took me almost a year to commit to taking the initial leap and trusting my gut. When I would discuss leaving, almost everyone I talked to thought I was crazy for leaving a stable job, except for my husband Aaron, who always believed in me. I kept going through this battle daily until a friend asked me, “what is really the worst that could happen?” When in reality, the worst thing was, I would fail, have to reapply for another graphic design position, which I had a degree in, and start over. When it came down to it, the decision was clear; I didn’t have anything to lose.
Please tell us about J. Agency Group.
J. Agency Group specializes in managing social media platforms, creating branding, from start to finish, and offers website design from scratch. We strive to help local businesses thrive and make their presence known. As a company, I am proud of not only the fast growth, but the immense amount of positive feedback we have received, in such a short amount of time. There is something special about forming a relationship with a client, that when they pick up the phone, they know who they’re talking to and you know exactly what company they’re from; it’s personal. J. Agency Group creates monthly calendar plans, where we meet with the client one on one at their place of business. We go over events, sales, specials and anything new they may want to roll out for the month ahead. These meetings are detailed, so there are no surprises for us or the client, which sometimes last an hour and sometimes three. There is no rush when it comes to making the client happy and we enjoy doing it!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Picking just one childhood memory is extremely hard to define. Growing up, I took art classes at a young age for fun, played every sport possible and participated in debate and student council. I was raised in a loving home with an amazing group of neighborhood kids. I was fortunate in that I did not have a normal neighborhood; I had an outstanding one, with tons of kids. We would host Halloween parties, dance performances, baseball games, water balloon fights, and so much more. My favorite childhood memory is just being a kid with no care in the world, but whose house we were going to play at the next day.
