Meet Jimmy Johnson and Lynita Robinson of GF Marketing Group in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Johnson and Lynita Robinson.

Jimmy, a serial entrepreneur, business consultant, published author and motivational speaker- was one of a handful of semi-pro basketball players privileged to play in the first inaugural seasons of the NBA D-League (now G-League) in 1997. He moved to Houston in 2005, obtaining his Real Estate license to become a Realtor, then completed his college education earning an A.A. in Business Administration from Lone Star College-Tomball in 2009, and a B.B.A. in Marketing from the Davies College of Business at the University of Houston-Downtown in 2013. He’s certified in Entrepreneurship, and spends the majority of his time managing numerous businesses in which he co-owns with long-time friend and business partner Lynita Robinson. Lynita was a part of the LBJ Science Academy in Austin, Texas its inaugural year- then two years later had enrolled at Sidney Lanier High School, where she graduated in the spring of 1990. She moved to Houston the following fall, completing her college education in 2000 from the Davies College of Business at the University of Houston-Downtown as well- earning a B.B.A. in Computer Information Systems. Then in 2016, she obtained an Executive M.B.A. from Jesse H. Jones College of Business at Texas Southern University. It’s through their various works that they’ve been recognized by organizations such as the U.S. Senator Ted Cruz’s Office, Harris County Precinct One Constable Alan Rosen’s Office, The State of Texas House of Representatives State Representative Sylvester Turner’s office and more. Both Jimmy and Lynita focus on striving to succeed, and incorporating a global framework into their spectrum of doing business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Jimmy and Lynita stated that entrepreneurship isn’t easy- especially, in terms of building their brand. Everyday is a new opportunity to learn- and part of that is incorporating how to deal with adversity. It’s strictly trial and error when it comes to building a business- in addition to being entrepreneurs, business consultants, published authors, motivational speakers and mentors. GF Marketing Group was founded in 2012, so over the years dealing with overcoming hardships, difficult times, financial inconsistencies, stressful situations, doubt, the lack of assistance, building the brand, and when plans don’t go as expected- it’s all part of the journey, that’s their testimony. But the key is, you live and you learn- just continue to keep it moving.

Please tell us about the company.
GF Marketing Group is a marketing firm that offers a full menu of professional creative services that meets all of your business needs. We provide marketing campaigns and business solutions that are specific for industry-wide marketing channels. We build partnerships and provide low-cost traditional and social marketing strategies from conception to ending. Our specialty is reaching your target audience and helping you to achieve satisfactory customer retention- which translates into company growth. GF Marketing Group was founded in 2012, regarding our business model- we wanted to create a well-rounded marketing firm that would cover assisting clientele with every aspect of developing, instituting, managing and growing their project and/or businesses. In today’s society, awareness is essential- as it relates to your audience’s ability to recall and recognize your brand under different conditions. The two possess over 20+ years of experience in sales, marketing, customer relations and I.T.- they say their expertise doesn’t lie in assisting clients with their marketing, it lies in assisting clients to take their marketing to the next level.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We’re not sure, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road- but, we just continue to stay focused, work through the adversity, and try to keep adding value to our brand. In the beginning, we weren’t exactly sure how we wanted to develop GF Marketing Group- a more traditional style of marketing company, or to be consultation heavy with a few niche services. As time has lapsed, and the new trend of being social media dependent has integrated into the system of doing business- we’ve figured out to just continue catering to what the market is requiring, offer strategic automation tools, and try to provide relevant packages that will accommodate these quick changes in technology. Everyone’s being their own marketing service now- so we have to stay creative, but it’s been eight years and we’re still here. We guess flexibility is key, positioning your company to withstand that test of time- it’s how we’ve managed to weave ourselves throughout the years. So, if we had to start over-, we’d say positioning for the social media phenomenon.
