Meet Joseph Haubert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Haubert.

Joseph, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born and raised in two urban north Texas Cities, Dallas-Fort Worth, I found my love for urban aesthetic photography very early on. I originally started my photography journey taking abstract shots for my design work, when I was a graphics designer for the city of Arlington. I then experimented with editorial and fashion but the iPhone and social media really changed everything for me. Having a small camera with me at all times and multiple platforms I could share my work on, motivated me to take photos whenever a photograph needed to be taken. Being one of the first adopters of Instagram, I connected with so many people early on, where I photographed mostly cities and their attractions along with the stunning Houston skyline. Visit Houston who I often work with have been so kind to support me and my work along with promoting me around the city to such great entities as Greater Houston and Houston Modern Luxury. I now work as a full-time commercial architecture photographer, snapping cityscapes, commercial properties and anywhere else a pretty photograph is needed. I am a passionate person who sees the world with an artistic eye. Wherever I go, I want to share the beauty I see.

Publications: Houston Modern Luxury, USA Today, Dwell, D Magazine, National Geographic, Vogue Italia, Practical Photography, Living Magazine just a to name a few.

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not smooth. Going out on your own and doing the thing you enjoy the most for a living is tough work. Half is work and the other half in marketing. Learning how I could sell my work and skills to others started with visualizing where I wanted to go and who my initial target audience would be. Getting so much attention on social media got me in pre-approved in some areas and the others I just had to work and invest. It’s always tough to challenge yourself when you don’t know exactly where you will land after you have the courage to jump for it. I am enjoying the road so far and I look forward to continuing down it.

Please tell us about the business.
My tagline is simple. I am “The skyline photographer”, working with businesses to showcase the most beautiful parts of their city. My end goal is to be the “city” photographer. With social media, I travel, connect with other cities and entities in order to continue my love for photography. Social media has allowed me to brand other brands with my unique perspective on the cities, such as Houston. For instance, I’ve taken over Visit Houston’s social media a few times and showed their audience different spots of the city such as things to do when visiting, like eating or recreational activities and lastly where is a great spot to admire the skyline during sunrise, day and sunset. I am very adaptive and creative. I think about the best vantage points and perspectives to convey exactly what I am trying to show others in a few seconds. Do they get it? Is this pretty? Would this make me want to go there? Lots of things run through my head. I enjoy it all!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston is the real Texas city in my opinion. Not to compare it to the other cities in Texas in a competitive way but how the citizens work together in diversity and hospitality all over the city and not separated by neighborhood cliques. Houston is just Houston. Also, lots of Texas cities started from Houston settlers such as Dallas – Fort Worth too. Houston is BIG. I’m always finding new areas to photograph. I love exploring downtown day and night and eating all of the amazing food around the city. Maybe a little too much. Haha. On the flipside, Houston is BIG and it can be troublesome to get around the city. The humidity is also pretty rough in the summer.
