Today we’d like to introduce you to Casper.
Casper, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, my mom was big into entertainment, so from the womb, I was interested in all forms of entertainment. Me, my brothers & some friends began a dance crew when I was about nine years old. We did it for fun but eventually, we started performing as back up dancers for musicians. Doing this made us want to start creating our own music, so we did. My mom became our Joe Jackson, she had us practicing for hour on end every day, always in the studio to make sure we were always sharp & performing all over; even in clubs at such a young age. From getting past three rounds on the X Factor to almost signing numerous record & label deals, we were making some waves in the industry, but the pressure began to test our passion. As time went by, the group began to split apart and a few members went solo, including myself.
Officially going solo by the time I was 20, I was afraid, at first, of facing the industry alone and had a hard time finding my own voice. Soon I realized I loved to freedom and was able to become and have complete creative control and wanted to reinvent myself. I began working with some friends I meet in high school who also loved music which soon became my family and we are now Wave Family Records. With their help, I have released three songs on streaming platforms as a solo artist and will be releasing an EP title “Waves” on May 12th of 2019. Music is my true medium, I have dealt with pretty severe anxiety since I was about 11, God and music is what cures me. This is my purpose. My goal with my music is to share my experiences, the knowledge, wisdom, love, joy & passion God has blessed me with to help me reach the best me, with the world. My intent and message is always love; I’m a philanthropist with my music.
Has it been a smooth road?
Anxiety has been a pretty big struggle, but music keeps me calm and occupied. So in a way, it helps me because it makes me want to work more, which I think is God’s way of sharpening my to be my best. Also, another big struggle is me being my biggest critic. I always want to make sure I’m making music of true substance. Of course, I make music that’s fun, but at its core, I want my music to help people in any way possible. So in that way, I’m kind of a perfectionist and sometimes it hinders me.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wave Family Records story.
Wave Family Records is a collective of extremely talented and passion artist, mostly in the category of music but we also have many other facets. We are kind of a monopoly, we have our own producers, writers, singers, rappers, directors, designers and with the internet our own distribution.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Becoming, not only a big label but having separate organizations which are in the works now. Like branding(clothing) and charity. As for me, as an artist, I have a phrase I use that is “there is no solid goal only continuous increase”. That means that no matter how far I go, that is only proof that I can go further. I never saw awards, money, and cars as a goal. Those are only tools and by products of the industry, I’m in by fully committing to the purpose God gave me. I want to change lives, change the world and bring light and joy in dark places. So in 5-10 years, I will be doing that on a global level, through music and other passions I have.
