Today we’d like to introduce you to Kareem Jackson.
Hi Kareem, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Connection! originally formed as The Youth Musicians in Houston, TX, with a group of seven teenagers, ages
13-18, performing for local churches. As the group developed musically and expanded in both experience and
reputation, they recognized the need for a name that better represented their growth. In 2000, they
rebranded as Connection!.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like any ministry and musical journey, Connection! has experienced its share of challenges. There have been seasons of change, uncertainty, and moments when we had to remind ourselves why we started in the first place.
One of the biggest challenges has been continuing to move forward when opportunities didn’t always come as quickly as we hoped. Building a name in gospel music takes patience, consistency, relationships, and faith. There have been times when we had to create our own opportunities, reach out to churches and promoters, and continue putting the music out there even when the response wasn’t immediate.
We’ve also experienced the challenges that come with keeping a group together, growing musically, and adapting to changes in the music industry. But through every obstacle, we’ve learned that the journey is just as important as the destination.
Those struggles have actually strengthened Connection! They’ve taught us to trust God, stay committed to the vision, and keep working even when we can’t see the full picture. Every closed door, delayed opportunity, and difficult season has helped shape who we are today.
We’re still growing, still learning, and still pushing forward. And that’s what makes the testimony even more meaningful we’re still here, still singing, and still connected to the purpose God gave us.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
