Today we’d like to introduce you to Kemet.
Hi Kemet , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Houston, TX
Started playing drums around 9-10 years old
Joined the band in middle school and high school
Graduated high school and decided to join the US Navy.
Served for 6 years, deployed once.
Continued making music because the Navy wasn’t fulfilling enough for me.
Produced 2 tracks for Roc Nation in 2021 and 2022, and have been continuing my music endeavors since then.
I’ll be attending film school in September for 2 years, and attending the music program after Film School has been completed.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Parents divorcing.
Altercations outside of home that could’ve led to an alternate life.
Having to move cities in my senior year of high school.
Joining the military has struggles that can be a little difficult to understand but deploying to the gulf of Iran is quite the journey.
I would have to say the biggest challenge has been finding myself outside of the military. I would say I have just recently figured out a clear path.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Right now, I currently work at a sneaker and clothing boutique called Club Never, but in my own time I engineer and produce for a multitude of artist.
I am most proud of making the decision to set out a life for myself and attempt to make it happen. As long as I don’t quit, that’s success within itself.
The thing that sets me apart from others musically, is the willingness to step outside of the social norms when needed. The aptitude to try things, even if it’s not structurally correct. What sets me apart from others personally, is my patience and willingness to be available when someone needs a friend, mentor, etc.
I remember what it felt like to not have someone who had my back, so I try my hardest to be that person for others.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I believe it was a Saturday morning, my father was cooking breakfast. My mother came downstairs and he grabs her and just starts singing Earth Wind and Fire while dancing with her. Me and my sister were disgusted ! Haha but it was a great memory.
