Today we’d like to introduce you to Keya Briscoe.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Keya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Inner City Baltimore in a community plagued with crime, drugs and violence. My dreams used to scare me.
I use to think:
*That can’t happen for me, I don’t deserve it;
* Why would anyone want to hear what I have to say
* What would my friends and family think if they knew I didn’t have it all figured out.
Then, about 15 years ago I met someone that asked me why was I interested in working with her clients. My response, In some ways I feel like I am speaking to the me that I used to be (feeling not enough, wanting someone to care enough to challenge me to grow into the me they knew I could be)… she smiled and said when can you start.
Purposed2Bmore LLC works with teen girls and women to help them visualize their gifts to walk boldly in the power, purpose and careers. Also, I wrote and published “Lessons For Our Daughters”. Lessons For Our Daughters is filled with stories related to self-esteem, heartbreak, overcoming struggle, and embracing power and purpose.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not a smooth road at all but the beauty of the bumps in the road is I have learned that I have the power to persevere.
I watched in horror as my uncle stood in my grandmothers living room after being stabbed by a stranger while walking my sister-friend home to ensure she got home safely, the irony of that still saddens me. Moments of not feeling enough or valued by the people around me.
Purposed2Bmore – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Purposed2Bmore LLC works with teen girls and women to help them visualize their gifts to walk boldly in the power, purpose and careers. I create workshops and master classes focused on teaching skills related to career planning, life planning and strategies to build self-esteem. I am most proud of my story. I teach from a place of power, passion and purpose.
For example, I have been in Houston for about 3 years. I worked with KIPP on the vision board activity. This past May, I designed and facilitated a vision board workshop for about 80 girls. What’s sets me apart from others is my passion to help teens and women discover their purpose. I do that about being transparent about my own struggles growing up Inner City Baltimore.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is helping teen girls and women walk boldly in the power and purpose. The criteria I use is follow up from teachers, administrators and program managers that work with the individuals that I work with consistently.
