Meet Kurt and Robin Bollman of Morpheus for Hair and Skin in Greenway/Galleria Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kurt and Robin Bollman.

Kurt and Robin, please share your story with us.
I grew up in Victoria, TX and my affinity for working with hair started there at an early age. My uncle owned a hair salon and I spent time there watching him do hair and getting different things done to my own hair. As a child, I always loved brushing and braiding hair. After high school, I attended community college for 1 year and determined that it just wasn’t for me. I decided to go to cosmetology school and earned my cosmetology license in 1988.

Robin grew up in Austin, TX. She has also always been interested in the beauty industry, and while in high school, she studied cosmetology.

Our first jobs in a salon were in Victoria. We were working in the same salon, me as a stylist and Robin as receptionist and shampoo assistant.

Robin and I were married in 1990 and moved from Victoria to Houston. I worked in a salon in the Timbergrove area for a couple of years and then moved to a salon in the Upper Kirby District, all the while building my clientele. Robin was working in the Architectural industry and after many years and being laid off from that industry, she decided to go back to cosmetology school and pursue a career that would allow her to have flexible hours while our daughter was starting school. This allowed Robin to be there for our child and volunteer in the public school system.

She felt esthetics would best suit her interests and be a great addition to my services. Robin is a licensed esthetician and a licensed lash extension specialist.

In 2004, we opened Morpheus for Hair and Skin in the Greenway/Galleria Area. The salon has grown into a thriving family owned business with two additional team members.

Has it been a smooth road?
Owning a hair salon in Houston can be very rewarding. You get to do what you love every day and you get to interact with all kinds of people. Business can sometimes fluctuate with the economy and Houston definitely has its ebbs and flows. Many of the services we offer are a luxury and not everyone can afford luxury all the time. The perception of beauty is ever-changing and it is imperative to keep up with those changes in this industry.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Word of mouth advertising has been the biggest reason for Morpheus’ success since it opened in 2004. When a client feels confident to refer their friends and family, that says a lot. The 1000 square foot space offers all hair services, in addition to facials, eyelash extensions, and waxing. Shades of grey on the walls, high ceilings, black leather and chrome seating, and black and white photographic artwork by a local artist establish a modern minimalist atmosphere. We wanted to create a functional space that is comfortable for our clients and stylists.

I met Kurt through some ladies I worked with. Kurt has taken care of my hair for over 20 yrs. After I got remarried in 1996, we moved to Galveston Island. My new husband and I drove from Galveston to the west side of Houston every month to let Kurt take care of our hair. He’s a terrific person, stylist, and a wonderful story teller to keep you entertained…all the while making your hair beautiful. We are so proud of Kurt and Robin and their well earned success. We now live in San Antonio, and miss Kurt and Robin both, but keep in touch with them.
