Meet Kyleen Bushroe of Kyleen Bushroe Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyleen Bushroe.

Hi Kyleen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The spaces we remember most aren’t necessarily the most extravagant, they’re the ones that make us feel most at home. That’s the essence of quiet luxury: timeless beauty, thoughtful details, and spaces that invite you to truly live in them.

That belief has shaped both my life and my business. Although I earned a degree in Economics and initially pursued a more traditional career path, it was the frequent relocations for my husband’s career that unexpectedly led me to design. With every move, I embraced the opportunity to create a home from scratch, and in the process, discovered what truly inspired me. Those experiences taught me that luxury isn’t about excess. It’s about creating spaces that feel welcoming, personal, and effortlessly suited to the people who live there, a philosophy that continues to guide my work today.

After helping friends with their homes, I realized design was more than a creative outlet, it was what I was truly meant to do. Encouraged by my husband, I enrolled in the New York Institute of Art and Design in 2017 to pursue that passion more intentionally. After graduating, I spent several years building my experience through independent projects before joining a boutique design firm in Houston, where I further refined my skills and approach. That experience gave me the confidence and foundation to launch my firm as it exists today, combining a highly personalized client experience with a design philosophy rooted in quiet luxury and timeless living.

Today, I work with clients throughout the greater Houston area and beyond, specializing in full-service interior design, renovations, and consultations. My design philosophy is rooted in quiet luxury: creating timeless, thoughtfully curated homes that feel refined, inviting, and deeply personal. To me, luxury isn’t about chasing trends or making a statement. It’s about thoughtful details, quality materials, and designing spaces that feel effortless to live in. The greatest compliment I can receive is when a client tells me their home not only looks beautiful but truly feels like them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. Like many new business owners, the beginning was slower than I expected. Building a client base and earning trust takes time, especially in an industry built so heavily on relationships and referrals.

One of the best decisions I made was stepping away from working independently for a period and joining a boutique design firm in Houston. The experience and mentorship I received there were invaluable, and it’s something I encourage every new designer to do before going out on their own. The knowledge you gain pays dividends for years to come.

A real turning point came when a friend, who is highly respected in the community, trusted me with the remodel design of her primary bathroom suite and closets. That project opened doors, led to new relationships and referrals, and helped build the foundation of my business.

Looking back, what stands out most isn’t any one project, but the incredible people who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. Every opportunity, referral, and client relationship has played a role in shaping my business, and I’m fortunate to do work I genuinely love with clients who place so much trust in me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We help clients create homes they truly love living in, whether that means guiding a new construction project from the ground up, reimagining a single room, overseeing a full-home remodel, or furnishing the finishing layers that bring a space to life.

If there’s one thing we’re known for, it’s creating homes that feel timeless, comfortable, and deeply personal. Our design philosophy is rooted in quiet luxury. We believe a home can be both refined and welcoming, elegant and livable. The most beautiful spaces aren’t necessarily the most extravagant. They’re the ones where every detail has been thoughtfully considered and where people genuinely enjoy spending time.

What sets us apart is our commitment to understanding how our clients truly live, paired with a seamless and professional design process. Building, renovating, or furnishing a home can feel overwhelming, so we’ve developed a thoughtful approach that guides clients through every step, making the experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. Over the years, we’ve also built strong relationships with trusted vendors, skilled tradespeople, and experienced contractors, allowing us to assemble the right team for each project and deliver exceptional results.

We’re especially proud of the relationships we’ve built along the way. In fact, all of our business comes from referrals and repeat clients, which is something we never take for granted. There is no greater compliment than having a client trust us with their home and then recommend us to their family and friends. Many of our clients return to us for multiple projects over the years, and those long-term relationships are one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

More than anything, we want people to know that luxury doesn’t have to feel intimidating. To us, quiet luxury is about timeless design, quality craftsmanship, thoughtful details, and creating homes that feel as beautiful as they are comfortable. At the end of the day, we’re not just designing rooms, we’re helping create the setting where life happens. Years from now, we hope our clients won’t be thinking about a particular paint color or piece of furniture. We hope they’ll remember the holidays hosted, the conversations shared, and the memories made in a home that truly felt like theirs.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in the small town of Greencastle, Indiana, on a farm where my family raised cattle. Much of my childhood was spent in 4-H, caring for animals, playing volleyball and basketball, and learning the value of hard work and responsibility from an early age. I was always keeping busy, whether I was pretending to work at a bank or playing “house” for hours. It’s funny because my career today blends both of those interests, combining the business side of running a company with the creativity of helping families create homes they love.

Looking back, my biggest influences were the three families that I was surrounded by in my childhood and formative years, I have many fond memories of gathering in their homes. How fortunate to grow up around several wonderful women who had a gift for hospitality and creating warm, welcoming homes where everyone felt comfortable! Those experiences left a lasting impression on me and helped shape my belief that homes should be both beautiful and deeply lived in.

As a teenager, I worked at Almost Home Tea Room, where I was surrounded by creativity, thoughtful details, and amazing homemade food. Between my upbringing, those influential families, and that experience, I learned early on that a home is about much more than how it looks. It’s about how it makes people feel, a philosophy that still guides my work today.
