16 years ago I purchased some pricey karaoke equipment due to my insanely outrageous addiction to my then karaoke hobby. It turned out to be the investment of a lifetime.

Starting with family members begging me to bring the equipment whenever I would attend family functions and gatherings to receiving phone calls from friends or family offering to pay me to come to their events with my fancy karaoke equipment.

Almost two decades later, I have successfully branded a company that offers what we call a “Premiere Karaoke Experience” throughout Texas, Louisiana, and other surrounding states. I knew that an ultimate blend of sparkling personalities and extraordinary Karaoke DJ services combined with dazzling showmanship and exceptional professionalism would take my company to the next level in the industry.

After having acquired a wealth of corporate, celebrity, and private event clientele who simply adore the LADY BG PRODUCTIONS crew, I’m certain that indulging in that pricey equipment years ago was unbeknownst to me, the best investment ever.

Has it been a smooth road?
As an African American woman who 100% owns her own business, it has not been an easy road but definitely a road worth traveling. In the entertainment industry, women face many more adversities, especially when you don’t have investors, business partners, or promoters financially backing you. Various levels of discrimination from unwanted sexual advances to offers of “gifts” or “perks” in exchange for “just one date” when securing bookings or hosting a show are an ongoing struggle.

During an event, verbal disrespect, the invasion of physical space, along with inappropriate touching, whether intentional or accidental often occurs and this type of behavior presents a feeling of discomfort and violation that most times we must brush off and keep the party rocking. Not acquiring contracts and bookings simply due to the fact that I’m a female has also been a major ongoing struggle. More often than not, I’m simply not expected to do as good of a job as my male counterparts which makes obtaining and securing respect within the industry to be the main struggle I have encountered along my journey to success.

Regardless to how kick ass our karaoke hosting skills are and how stellar our customer service is, there are still people out there feel like when they see a female DJ setting up, they instantly assume we can’t get the job done as well as a male DJ would. When we walk in the door to most events we instantly feel the pressure to “prove” we can handle it. And 100% of the time we meet, beat, and even exceed our client’s expectations, shutting down any preconceived chauvinistic notions in the process.

If I believed in luck, I would say that “good luck” has played an award-winning role in my life. I have been abundantly blessed in many areas of my life including personal and professional. Although there have been ups and downs, the good has always outweighed the bad. The thing about it is balancing the two. When you do good things and do good by people, great things manifest in your life.

So for me, there is no need for good luck nor any room for bad luck whether it’s to do with personal life or my business. I strive every day to live my life and run my business on the same accord of doing right by people and providing an honest reputable service. Therefore I am and will continue to be highly blessed and favored in life and within my business.
