Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeisha Rush.
Hi Lakeisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story brings together business, creativity, and a love of personal style. I’m a Charlotte-based e-commerce and growth marketing leader, content creator, wife, and mom. Throughout my career, I’ve helped consumer brands grow by understanding their customers and creating shopping experiences that build lasting relationships.
My professional background spans digital commerce and growth marketing in the beauty, wellness, and consumer products space. I’ve led initiatives across online stores, marketplaces, customer retention, and brand experiences. I love the balance of creativity and strategy—understanding what draws someone to a brand, then making sure the experience delivers on that promise.
Alongside my career, fashion has become an important part of how I express myself and connect with others. Through my content, I share personal style, great finds, and experiences worth leaving the house for. I’m especially interested in speaking to women navigating their late 30s, 40s, and beyond. We can be ambitious, raise families, explore new interests, and still make room for beauty, fun, and individuality.
That connection between commerce and creativity is also shaping my next chapter. My sister and I are building Rare House, a designer fashion concept focused on rare finds, thoughtful curation, and exceptional clothes at more accessible prices. I bring the digital commerce and growth experience, while she brings her strengths in creative direction, styling, and merchandising.
Where I am today feels like the different parts of my life coming together. I’m continuing to grow as a leader while giving myself permission to build something of my own. My 40s have become a season of exploration—using what I’ve learned, trusting my taste, and making room for the ideas I want to bring to life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been making room for my own goals while managing a demanding career, motherhood, marriage, and everyday responsibilities. There’s only so much time and energy, and I’m still learning how to pursue my ambitions without treating rest as something I have to earn.
Building a career in digital commerce also means navigating constant change. You’re accountable for results while customer expectations, technology, and business priorities keep evolving. That has taught me to stay curious, adapt, and make thoughtful decisions even when I don’t have every answer.
On the creative side, the challenge has been giving my own ideas the same attention I give my professional work. It’s easy to put personal projects at the bottom of the list when other people are counting on you. Creating content and taking the first steps toward Rare House have meant making time, trusting my perspective, and being willing to learn as I go.
I’m learning that I don’t need to have everything figured out before taking the next step. Sometimes progress is a big decision, and sometimes it’s one small task completed after a full day. I want to build a life that makes room for my family, my ambition, and my creativity—and that takes ongoing adjustment.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an e-commerce and growth marketing leader specializing in helping consumer brands build profitable digital businesses. My work spans direct-to-consumer websites, marketplaces such as Amazon, customer acquisition, retention, and the overall shopping experience. I connect those pieces so that marketing brings customers in, the experience earns their trust, and the business gives them a reason to return.
A big part of my work is translating business goals into practical decisions: how we present products, where we invest marketing dollars, how we improve the website, and how we communicate with customers. I enjoy finding opportunities in both the numbers and the customer experience. Sometimes the answer is in the data; sometimes it comes from listening closely to what customers are telling us.
I’m most proud of helping turn growth into a stronger, more sustainable business. My experience includes helping scale an Amazon business to $10 million and contributing to four consecutive quarters of profitability. Those milestones reflect the work of teams, and I take pride in helping align people around a clear goal and turning strategy into action.
What sets me apart is the combination of commercial thinking and a strong creative point of view. I care about revenue and profitability, and I also care about how a brand looks, feels, and connects with people. My interests in fashion, content creation, and culture inform that perspective. I’m always thinking about what makes someone stop, pay attention, and feel that a brand understands them.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice is to start with curiosity and a specific question. If you admire someone’s work, let them know what resonates with you and what you’d like to learn. Asking how they navigated a particular career decision gives you a more meaningful starting point than a broad request to “be my mentor.” It also respects their time and allows the relationship to develop naturally.
I also think it helps to be open to learning from different people. One person may offer insight into leadership, another into entrepreneurship, and another into making room for creativity or family. Peers can be valuable sources of perspective, too. You don’t have to find one person who has every answer.
In my own professional life, I make room for industry events and conversations with other leaders. I’m especially interested in honest discussions about ambition, change, and building a sustainable career. I try to come prepared with thoughtful questions and stay open to perspectives beyond my own area of expertise.
For networking in general, my approach is to build relationships through shared interests and mutual respect. Follow up, stay in touch, share something useful, and celebrate other people’s work. If someone gives you advice, put it into practice and let them know how it helped. That’s how an initial conversation can grow into a lasting connection.
