Today we’d like to introduce you to Lalu K.
Please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Where to start? Lalu’s Treasures is a waling evolution, a literal Glow Up. It started as Lajoy’s Closet, which was my vintage resale IG boutique, I carried handbags, scarves, shoes, sweaters, and more. As I begin my holistic/spiritual journey, I wanted my lifestyle to reflect my beliefs.
I went to a few Holistic shops here in Houston, that were all white-owned. There were literally no black shops I could have shopped with back then. After a very unsatisfied visit with one particular shop, I vowed to never spend another dime with them, So, I researched and I saved, and I prayed about launching my very own Spiritual Shop. That was back in 2015 and I’ve been elevating every since.
I wanted to promote personal growth, protection, peace, womb health, and prosperity. My product line includes all-natural bath and body, Yoni Care Items, Smudges and a touch of magic. With informal training in business management, herbalism, healing crystal therapy, and Womb Wellness, I am dedicated to sharing my knowledge and experience regarding African traditional religions and self-care practices.
I come from a long line of spiritual leaders and women and men who used herbs to treat and heal aliments. I spent summers with my grandma and grandpa’s who had a rabbit and chicken farm, it was there that I fell in love with the beauty of nature and it was there that I learned that respecting the land and its inhabitants no matter how small is what will sustain life.
Has it been a smooth road?
Every day is a learning experience! I’ve taken a lot of loses, but thank God and the Ancestors, I was always given back 10x more than what I lost.
Being a black woman in a society not intent on understanding or supporting her, I’ve had to do alot of things on my own.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lalu’s Treasures – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
A Mind, Body & Soul Care Boutique. I created this space for those wanting to heal the mind, body, and spirit. My goal is to promote products that encourage self-care through Crystal Healing, Natural Skin Care, Smudging, Feminine Care and more.
I’m known for my PumPum “Yoni” Care items and Floral Sage Smudge Sticks.
I’m proud of every product in my shop! each one has a heavy purpose in the journey of anyone that buys it I’m proud of my unapologetic approach to black commerce and adding to the black dollar.
I even started a Black Vendor Fair in Houston called Sip, Shop, and Sage, where we gather a few black-owned shops and let them sell their items at a workshop where I teach on Sage Making/Using Herbs, Rediscovering Self Love and Setting up Sacred Spaces in the Home.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the comradery we have among black entrepreneurs in the city, I love the magic certain parts of the city hold.
Hate that gentrification is driving out tons of black business owners and families.
